  1. Infants are certainly safer in their own infant seat than on your lap.  You can check the car seat for a sticker that states it is airline approved or go to the manufacturers website to check.

  2. An 11 month old is very mobile and active. I would get a seat for him. Especially if the flight is over 2 hours. Not to mention it is so much safer.

After we had landed and were taxing to the gate the airplane pilot had to slam on his brakes. Another plane didn't yield to us as he should have. Thank goodness we are had on our seat belts. I still banged my head on the seat in front of me. If you were holding your baby he would of flown out of your arms.

  3. 3-5 hours is pushing it for a lap baby.  Bear in mind, you are going to have to eat with the baby on your lap, etc.   (assuming there is food on the airplane, I know).  If you have to go to the bathroom, have to take him with, because no car seat, etc.

If its not a make or break issue, for comfort, I would pay the money...

  4. no. Just hold the baby on your lap.

He will probably want to be helf the entire time anyway.

It's not worth the 400 dollars.

But check with the airline to see what their policies are and if they require you to pay for an infant ticket, then do it.

But if not, then just hold the kid on you lap. It will be cheaper, and easier.

  5. All I'm going to say on this one is that the industry slang term for babies riding in their parents' laps is "cabin missles".  Think about it.

  6. Get the seat for your child.  Your child will NOT be safer in your lap, as much as people think it is safer.  If you wouldn't ride in a car with your baby on your lap, why would you consider riding on an airplane with the baby on your lap?  I have been traveling with my son since he was 4 weeks old.  He ALWAYS had a seat of his own.  I am a former flight attendant and can tell you from experience that babies get hurt riding as a lap child.  Turbulence, decompressions, god fobid an accident on ladning or takeoff....they get hurt.  I know 400 dollars is steep, but the safety of your kid is priceless, imho.

  7. I don't think it's worth spending 400 dollars on the seat. If you are worried about the safety of the baby, my guess would be that he would be safer on your lap. Wisconsing to Oregon would probably take a 3-5 hours so it shouldn't cause much discomfort on your part.

    hope that helped!

  8. Most airlines usually have a discounted rate for infants to fly. I'd recommend getting the extra seat for your own peace of mind (it beats having to hold the baby the entire duration of the trip), and lets you be able to do other things, like feed him, play with him, and when he's asleep, read a book! :)

  9. If there is no turbulence no evasive maneuvers for any reason and smooth take offs and landings he would be fine on your lap.  However there is absolutely no guarantee of that.  a baby with no seat belt is totally unprotected if the flight is rough.Call the airline and see if they give any discount or child fare in such a case.     They can also tell you if the seat would fit.

  10. I dont think so. Since he isnt even 1 years old, it wouldn't be worth to pay for a flight ticket of $400. he might not even enjoy the flight. he might get scared if she finds out that you're about 30,000 feet above the air.

    So I wouldn't get him a plane ticket. :)
