  1. I faced the same decision with a Buick Park Avenue I have.

I loved the car and the motor still ran like a top but the transmission was going to cost about 2 grand and with the car being a 1994 it did not seem logical.

I bought a used transmission with low miles from a reputable wrecking yard (if you do this make sure they are reputable, few are!) for $450.00 and put it in myself.

It has been 2 years & 25 thousand miles since then and the car is great.

You might consider this route if the truck is old enough to question if it is worth it but nice enough to want it around.

    Good Luck!

  2. That depends on how old is the truck.

    good luck...

  3. Depends on the model/mileage/condition of the truck but a used tranny you can sometimes get for $400 at a junk yard or something. It's the labor to replace the old one and install the new one that'll cost you. If you can do these yourself or get someone to do it for cheap then i would definitely do it. If not just put a sign on it in your front yard with a fair price and put tranny blown and someone will probably want to buy it.

  4. You need to put more info on the truck.  is the tranny more expensive than the whole truck? if yes, sell the truck and make some money off it.

  5. is the truck new or old? do you need that truck? these are just some questions to think about before you answer your question. who can beat a free truck...good luck!

  6. depends on the make model and condition.  tranny rebuild could be up to 3000 dollars.
