  1. If you're good at it, nothing is better.

The secret is coldness & not over working the dough.

  2. If you have the time and desire to make you own crust they are great, But I always use the store pie crust. I get the ones that are rolled up in the refrigerator part if the store. I get to use my own pie pans and I like the taste better. I am sure that Pillsbury puts them out. Happy pie making.

  3. People always know when it's homemade. It tastes better.

  4. Not for me, i can't make a very good crust but my mother-in-law could make such a good crust that I always begged her to make extra so I could eat it without filling.

  5. Only if you enjoy making it and you can get a decent pastry.  Getting stressed over a pie crust is not worth it and I'm saying it as a chef.

  6. when you don,t make it from scratch. it will hurt your pride

  7. No the store bought kind are just as good :)

  8. There are two kinds of pie crusts from scratch.  The first is the kind you roll out - store-bought is simpler but also sweeter.  The second kind is patted in the pan instead of rolled.  With that one, it's tastier and just as easy as the store-bought kind.

I use the pat in the pan kind for my apple pies at Thanksgiving.  Everyone loves it.

  9. It takes lots of practice to learn to make a good crust.

  10. Nope-tried for years to make a crust like my gramma made.  Loads of frustration, wasted flour & lard.  I finally can make a good one but its not worth the bother. Pillsbury does a fine job of making theirs & if your time means anything to you its likely cheaper.
