  1. yes, it really is worth it, but you don't need to spend 100$ at bestbuy or circuit city.  Buy a cable online for about 7-15$, they work exactly the same, and look beautiful.  Just google product search or something.

  2. I actually looked this question up online and found a study where they connected the same system with $13 generic HDMI, $200 Monster HDMI and $300 Honeywell cables. They then asked unaware experts if they could detect a difference in sound.

    They could not.

  3. By "standard cable" do you mean the HD component cable?

Chances are you wont see much difference if you are already using the HD component cable set.

Both monoprice and BlueJeans sell decent HDMI cables.  The signals are digital and for run-lengths under about 15 feet, budget cables seem to give perfect transmission.

  4. Yes get an HDMI cable.  No, do not get a Monster brand cable.  This is the most overpriced unnecessary piece of wire ever.  A basic HDMI cable will do.  All it is is just like any other cable.   It provides signal from one media to another.  Basic HDMI cables will do that just fine especially of short distances like 20 feet or less.  Get your most common 6 foot cables for $5-15 at a online store like Monoprice.com

  5. Don't buy Monster cables...ever. They are good cables, but very overpriced and you could find the same quality for cheaper. Do as the others said and go to monoprice.com for your HDMI cable.

Also note that if you use an HDMI or VGA connection from your 360 to your TV instead of the component HD cables that come with the system then you will be able to get 1080p with your HD-DVDs as opposed to 1080i through the component and you will then be able to use the HD-DVD add on as an upscaling DVD player.

  6. I would just get a cheap HDMI cable at target or something like that.  Or just put tha money to a PS3 since they are not going to be making HD DVD's anymore.

  7. As far as home theatre goes.  It's only as good as your weakest link.  You can have an awesome HDTV, high end receiver, and expensive speakers  but as soon as you use a cheap cable, you may as well throw everything out.

If you don't care go for the cheap stuff.  If you want it to perform at it's best, use Monster Cable.

  8. You should definatly use HDMI cables, but I would not spend the extra money on Monster Cables,  the cheap ones will work just as good, most likely will not see any difference, unless maybe you have a very top of the line HDTV, then if that is the case you probably have the extra money to spend on a set of $100 cables. I think monoprice.com has good prices on cables, can't remember if that was the best site or not.
