Is it worth trying to teach myself violin?

Question

i'd love to play violin but i cannot get lessons at school because it clashes with important lessons and i can't afford lessons out of school. i am considerating teaching myself violin but is it worth it?

i have taught myself guitar in the past and have seen several books on self teaching on violin on the internet but is it worth it?
