  1. Well, are you having trouble playing your games? If so, have you ascertained that your graphics subsystem is the primary bottleneck? If the above are met, do you play at 1920x1080 or 2560x1600, and do you refuse to reduce the resolution and incur artifiacts? If so, are games worth 400$ a year? If you meet all the qualifications, get the GTX280 and wonder if you're not a tad obsessive, too.

  2. Well a few things...

    1) The PCI-E 1.0 vs 2.0 is meaningless, since no cards exist yet which max out the 1.0 specifications bandwidth. None, not even the Radeon 4870X2!!  It's only a consideration for future technological advancements.

    2) The gtx 280 is much faster than your 8800gtx, no question there. But the problem is- it's too expensive! The price is too high for the performance it offers, when the Radeon 4870 is almost as fast and costs HALF as much, while the 9800GX2 and 4870X2 are faster.

    3) The 8800GTX is plenty fast for anything short of Crysis.

So no, that upgrade isn't worth it.

  3. no

  4. no with out PCIe 2.0 the upgrade would be minor
