  1. Don't buy memory from Apple... EVER!  They overcharge by 3-4X what the typical price is.  The RAM used in Macs is exactly the same that is used in PC laptops (e.g. Dells running Windows).

Replacing RAM on MacBooks is extremely easy:  it takes a small screwdriver (like the kind for eyeglasses) and about 5 minutes.  Order the smallest configuration you can get ... I got my wife's with only 1GB.

    Buy any DDR2 PC5300 (667MHz) 2 x 2GB from NewEgg and install it yourself!

4GB does help in Mac if you like keeping lots of different applications open.

  2. You have to be carefull here adding to much ram might not work although your computer says its ok, i would be very happy with 2gig and leave it.

  3. Depends on what you plan on using your laptop for. If you're thinking of CPU intensive programs like CAD, 3D, animation, music production, video and etc..., it never hurts to have the most RAM your laptop can hold.

Otherwise, if you plan on surfing and doing other basic computer tasks, 2GB should be pretty good---save the money for other stuff...and if you see 4GB modules for a cheap price down the road, then get it if you have the extra $$$ for it...if not, i wouldn't worry about it.
