I am selling an 02 corolla LE with 62,000 miles. It could use some auto body work- has paint scraped off in a bunch of places but other than that its in great condition. Is it worthwhile to paint it first or sell it as is?

  1. think about what you want for your car. if painting your car costs less than 10% of the value you get for it afterwards, then it's worth it, otherwise just advertise it as needing a paint job and that this is "reflected in the price".

You can usually knock the cost of the paint job, off the value with the potential buyer. either way you're going to lose the amount it's going to cost for a paint job.

  2. I agree with Jay. You will not recoup the cost of a good paint job and a sub-par paint job might just drive the price down.

  3. Don't paint it.  A decent paint job is a lot of money.  A poor paint job is noticeable by even a novice buyer and forces the questions of whether the car was wrecked.  This goes for trading the car in to a dealer as well.

  4. It would depend on how much damage you have on the car. If you are trading it in at a dealership, then dont. If your selling it indvidually, then It would depend on how much you are trying to get out of it. To repaint and redo some serious scratches on the car, will probabbly cost around or above 1200 dollars.

  5. No

  6. Whats the blue book value on your car? If you can get the blue book value as it is.. then don't paint it. But if you cant because of the paint then paint it.
