I am perfectly ok with this and so is my daughter, but some other people are aghast and think the word is "too adult".

  1. I don't think it's wrong at all!  I mean, it's a perfectly scientific word, not slang or anything, and it's also perfectly clear what he's referring to.  It's great that you and your daughter are able to treat him like an adult!  Also, why would you make him call it something that's childish, when he'll have to learn the right word when he's older anyway?

  2. No, nothing wrong with it at all. After all, that is what it is!

  3. Not at all. My five year old says p***s and v****a, some people are uncomfortable with this I expect, but they are correct words and there's nothing wrong with them using them.

He also says willy, but he knows the real word. It is of course, up to him which word he chooses to use. But we are happy for him to use correct words.

  4. Not only is it NOT wrong, but it is the right thing to do!

There are many reasons to teach our childrn proper terminology for ALL of their body parts.

Giving the body parts "nicknames" makes it seem shameful to say the word p***s/v****a (or the terminology for other parts in that region).  The feeling of shame makes it more difficult for parents and children to communicate about those parts, and for patients to communicate with their doctors about those part-even when said patients are grown!

A child who knows the proper terminology is less likely to be sexually abused, and if s/he is, it is easier to prove.  If a child says "The babysitter touched my puppy dog", that leaves reasonable doubt.  If the child can say "The babysitter touched my p***s", well...a little more convincing and convictable.

It certainly would be nice if more people would overcome their fear of shame and teach their children proper terminology, so we do not keep perpetuating this situation.
