Question:

Is it wrong to copy another wedding theme?

Hi there! Before yall start judging me telling me I got no originality or I'm lazy to think of my own theme... lemme say first that I DO have my wedding color theme already... sage green and cream...

My problem is... I saw a featured wedding on one of my wedding magazines and I really, really, really fell inlove with their wedding color theme and now I feel that my sage green & cream doesn't look appealing anymore...

The featured wedding on the magazine had their vendors listed. I went to the website where they had their invitations made and I saw the exact same design... it was really very pretty. It also showed a picture of their reception table centerpiece and also thought that it really looks wonderful. I also love their thank you parting gifts and that too was pretty as well...

I have a really good idea and a nice laid out plan for my wedding (no worries it's 1yr & 10months away)... but seeing this "featured wedding" in the magazine made me feel like my plans won't be as beautiful so now I wanna copy that "featured wedding"... their color motif, centerpiece, thank you gift & bridal bouquet... she doesn't know me & i don't know her either - do you guys think that's pretty tacky?!

Thanks

  1. Absolutely.....if that what you like, go for it! Your not copying anyones idea.  Its out of a wedding magazine.  That is what they are for, get ideas out of them!

  2. Our cake and cherry blossom wish tree were taken straight out of Martha Stewart.

I made our invitations, with inspiration from a website.

Thats WHY these resources are out there for you to use, either the same or adapt in your own style. You still have time to think and adjust your ideas. There were some things I thought I wanted, but later discarded or changed.

So, keep all these things in your mental book of ideas, and you love something as it is, whats wrong with doing the same thing?

  3. A wedding featured in a magazine?  Of course you can copy it!  That's what wedding magazines are for :P

  4. NOPE, I don't think it's tacky to copy it from a magazine. If you were copying someone you knew in real life, then I would say it's extremely tacky.

    good luck. :)

  5. There's tons of people getting married in the world, at one point or another all the themes would be used. But it doesn't mean you CAN'T use it either.

Do what you think looks best.

  6. green doesnt sound that attractive ..id feel free 2 copy...it is public

  7. it's totally up to you and if you feel that the feature wedding still resembles you then I say go for it. You don't want to stick with what you got just because you already picked colors. The beauty of planning ahead is having the ability to change whatever you want to create your perfect wedding!! I always find new things that I love and wish I did for my wedding so have no regrets and create your dream wedding!! good luck1!

  8. i think that magazines are there for exactly this reason

in this day of the net etc, its a lot easier for everyone to see whats out there, same with magazines, rather than shopping locally, but people are employed to put these together so that you can see what it all looks like to gether, in the hope that someone will like it and be inspired, i see nothing wrong in what you are doing

i have very definate tastes and ideas, but that is in all walks of life, decor clothes etc, but sometimes we need a little inspiration

all this tells me is the person who designed that wedding you saw, did their job properly,

  9. if it was from a magazine go for it! it would be a lot worse if it was one of  your friends' weddings and you did something similar. but from a wedding magazine, do it! that's why they have those, to make you have a memorable wedding. :)

  10. In the end, everyone copies everyone. If you're using a magazine as inspiration, there is nothing wrong with that and that is where alot of brides get their inspiration from in the first place. That's why they are in the wedding magazines, because they want to you to have that look, no matter what you spend to get it. But if you were copying a friend or relative's theme down to the last detail, that would be another matter entirely. That said, I don't see anything wrong with what you are suggesting.

  11. As much as people on here think that stuff is tacky, there's probably going to be alot of "No, don't do it" answers on here, but I think it's ok. Especially since you don't know her and she doesn't know you. Go for it, have fun, and congrats!

  12. There's no such thing as an original wedding anymore. There have been so many weddings in the world, that its impossible!

therefore no it would not be tacky cause even if you used your own idea, chances are its been done a million times before :)

go for whatever you want. Either way, it will be beautiful.
