Question:

Is it wrong to cut yourself just for the enjoyment of it?

I'm not depressed.

But I like the sharp, tingly, painful yet enjoyable sensation that comes with it.

It's a hobby, different people like different things.. And this just happens to be what I like.

Would people generally see this as "wrong"?

Again I am not depressed. Do not say I am, because I'm not.

  1. Probably not. It's just another form of stimulus. As long as you don't get carried away.

  2. Yes, it is generally seen as 'wrong'. I suppose it's because cutting is always associated with depression and suicidal thoughts and all that stuff. I agree with you though. A while ago my parents found out i cut and they automatically assumed the worst when i was definitely not depressed. It's not like i slashed myself that much either. It was just... like you said... a hobby. A form of entertainment and enjoyment. Unfortunately, most people cannot understand that.

  3. OMG! i confronted my bf sister earlier for having cut marks on her shoulders and asked her why she kept doing that and guess what she said? " Because its the only thing that makes her feel? She is a sociopath by the way., and yes, to me its wrong!!

  4. I think it's pretty wrong. You should go see a therapist. Because you will probably get yourself really hurt in the future.

I mean your addicted to this now... Imagine how you'd be later on in life :(

  5. well, it seems wrong to me. but then I hate pain. I also do not like to damage the integrity of my body. I like my tissues, body fluids, etc to stay intact within my skin. so I guess i am not sure how to answer your question.

  6. well this is coming from a cutter, I don't exactly see it as wrong but I know it's not normal for other people but for me it has become normal...

  7. I don't know if I'd call it "wrong"... but I'd definitely not call it "right". there are so many better hobbies... and if pain must be involved, try a rubber band around the wrist (you'd have to snap it pretty hard, but it does sting!) or some sort of insane sport where you are sore and absolutely exhausted afterwords.

I guess I have to suggest that there's another reason you cut... most people hurt themselves for a reason; maybe it's control? doing something others consider "bad"? to rebel? I dunno. I have to bring that up, because even people who collect things as a hobby or do sports have a reason for what they do. they collect cars because they love automobiles. they go hang-gliding for the rush, and the view. or they go shopping because they think the clothes make them more attractive.

you don't have to be depressed to cut... but cutting isn't a good habit, mostly because it's... well, bad for you. if you cut too often in a certain area, your body kinda goes into shock... if you hit a nerve or a vein, you've got a problem... if a loved one finds out, they generally flip... psychologically speaking, it's unhealthy to purposefully hurt yourself. I'll bet you know that, too. what would you think if someone you loved came up to you, showed you a bleeding gash and asked "do you think this is a bad habit?". would you go to a doctor and ask him if cutting is a bad habit? somewhere you've gotta know it's not a good habit. if you don't find it bad, why did you ask Yahoo! Answers in the first place?

my suggestion is: stop cutting. find another hobby. not because other people find it wrong, but for a purely selfish reason: it's BAD for you. It's unhealthy. and it's addicting and potentially deadly.

  8. self injury is wrong. if you're doing it for enjoyable sensations, its self injury.

    try getting something pierced.

  9. when I used to cut I would sometimes just do it out of boredom, from a non-cutter's point of view they would think it's wrong, but yeah, i get what you mean, lol..

  10. yes its very wrong. People usually enjoy cutting because they have had something serious happen to them eg sexual abuse. It is not normal to like this. You would do well to see a counsellor about this.

  11. It's not right but if you are not depressed just be careful because cutting is associated with depression. I would suggest getting tattoos or piercings, yeah they cost but at least you won't get a horrible infection. I actually was a cutter, though I was depressed. One thing you might need to think about is the scars that you create every time u cut think about the future as well as the present, when I was 13-17 I loved my scars I thought they showed who I was but as I look back on them now I think about what kind of tattoo I should get to cover my entire forearm.
