Is it wrong to eat meat? Would you be okay with someone killing your dog?

i realize how the question sounds but I'm not saying eating meat is wrong. For the record I am not a vegetarian, and I think peta is way too extreme. I think animals kill other animals in nature and it is natural to eat meat. I guess I just wrestle in my mind w/ an animal is an animal to me. I mean in India cows are pets and I'm sure they think its horrible for us to kill and eat them. The chinese have historically (although not so much in recent years) consumed dog meat. I am just curious what others thoughts are about this.

  1. It's not something I'd do.

Unless you want to hunt down the animal and eat it raw, it's not very natural to eat meat (especially the factory-farmed kind). Because that is how the carnivorous animals in nature do it, they eat it raw and bloody. You'll never see a lion going to the supermarket and buying pre-packaged gazelle to cook for dinner.

  2. I think it's natural to do so, at least in the US culture.  We have raised cows, goats, chickens, turkeys, rabbits, etc. for food for thousands of years.  If other cultures eat other animals (like horses, for example) I am not going to tell them that they can't.

  3. no. i think it is normal to eat wild animals. its not the same as killing a dog. a dog is breeded for the pure fact that it will be domesticated. a cow is breeded to supply people with food. dogs are domestic animals.

  4. yeah but nature animals dont give them 2nd degree burns make them suffer in small cages no food for like ever and no drink for ever in the hot summer sun

  5. My dog would hardly make a meal. Have you ever noticed we only eat the ugly animals?  We are fortunate enough to have enough food we don't have to eat our family pets.  However, I think dog is not the strangest thing people around the world eat.   Some eat bugs, beetles, snakes, and even monkeys.  There are even those who are active practicers of cannibalism.  So, I would defiantly not be ok with someone killing my dog.  There is no need for it.  However eating meat is acceptable to me.  I think there are animals that are raised for the specific purpose of becoming food.  It is their lot in life.  People make their living by raising these animals and selling them.  It is part of the economy.  If you want to eat meat, go ahead.   If you don't want to, by all means, don't.

  6. Ordin, you are awsome. That is a beautiful argument against being vegetarian. I don't care if that is what people want to be, but when they say, "McDonalds is so gross," or "I can't beleive you can eat meat," it makes me angry and I want to make them feel terrible for being who they are.

  7. i think it is very wrong to factory farm animals. You should look into that if you havent already. The animals are raised very cruel and unnaturally. They are killed cruelly and not given any type of humane treatment. And they are in unsanitary conditions, too many hormones and antibiotics. Did you know that cows with tumors and other infected injuries are still allowed by law to be classified as "premium quality" and so that is why they never receive medical care. They are now just looked at as a comodity.

i became vegetarian  because of the animal cruelty

i also think peta is too extreme by the way.

  8. It's fine if you eat meat, just make sure to take it from an animal that you killed yourself with a clean shot to the vital organs. One that lived in its natural habitat and wasn't forced to live in it's on urine and f***s. This death is far more desirable than one that involves slow starvation or being torn apart by predators' teeth and jaws while still conscious.

I'm sure that selecting your own free range cow would also be much better, just make sure that they shoot it in the head with a bolt gun before they gash its throat open while it dangles from its back feet.

I prefer to not worry about how my food dies so I only eat plants because they can't suffer.

  9. No.

No, they need to get their own.

  10. Wrong?  Depends upon the person that you ask - their conviction - their view - their perception on the matter.

All people don't make the same choices.  Sounds really simple - but many miss the reality behind that comment.  Good, honest, moral people really can make a choice that is totally opposite of yours and be totally comfortable with that choice.

I live in Texas.  I know kids that raise cattle and they are their pets.  They have names - and God help you if you attempted to go out in the pasture to harm their cattle.

My problem is with the 'factory' approach to rearing cattle vs. the normal natural way that the people around where I live raise them.  It is nothing like the cattle that is out around my back fence line - that roam all over - reach over the fence to grab at my bush in the back - that leave me nice 'cow pies' for my roses as little 'gifts'.

As to my dogs - anyone makes a move on my dogs - they answer to me - and remember - I live in Texas - and I am a fair shot.  They actually are dogs that were rescued from being 'put down'.

  11. no it is only natural for us to eat meat. all over the world people are still eating pigeons, bats, frogs,Purana's and even cow testicles. Some animals are domesticated and you wouldn't want to eat poor little "fluffy" right?

  12. Depends on your culture and what kind of meat we are talking about.  people, dogs, cats, rats and bug are not acceptable to me. On the other had chicken, and cows are. there is a fine line between brutality and killing for consumption.  Animals should not be mistreated in the slaughter process.  In the us we farm raise animals just for consumption.   There is a limit for everything PETA can be a bit extreme.  But I also think its okay to wear leather coats and tennis shoes too, long as its not endangered

  13. Yea, I think PETA is wayyyyy to extreme, saying people shouldn't have any pets, I mean come on both man and the animal enjoy it. Btw, I also think it is natural that animals kill other animals, that is their way to survive. But humans can survive without meat, vegetarians live 4-10 years longer then a meat eater.

  14. I do think it's wrong to eat meat since it is totally unneccessary and there is so much cruelty involved.  I also think making the distinction between animals we like and animals we eat is silly.  Take dolphin-safe tuna for example.  Why are dolphins so much more worthy of sympathy than tuna?

Second of all, humans were never really natural hunters.  We don't chase down our prey and tear it apart with our fangs and claws.  And we don't have the digestive systems for it.  You would probably get very sick if you went out and caught an animal and ate it raw.  Plus you certainly can't say eating food from factory farms is "natural."

  15. since humans can be healthy not eating meat, and we keep the meat we eat in awful, unsanitary conditions i don't think it's right.

have you ever been to a slaughter house?
