OK so my friend she is 13, and she is about to start datin a 17 year old. My parents and her parents think thats sick, and that there is somethin wrong with the 17 yr old. Is it wrong for them to date?

Yes, its a little weird age difference, because usually 18 year olds have no interest in dating 13 year olds, but maybe he's different. Its not up to your parents, her parents, or even you and me to decide, just her. It would be nice to give her your input, but do not tell her whats right and wrong :]

I have a 12 yr old daughter and she is not even interested in older guys and I would hope they would not be into her either.  There is definetly something WRONG with a 17 yr old even wanting to hang out with a 13 yr old girl.  This seems too risky to me...as her parent I would never allow her to date him.  This is a sick situation and I hope your friend finds someone her own age for her safety!

Um yeah, there is definetly something wrong.  Can we say statutory rape?  Not to mention, why in God's green earth would a 17 year old want to be with a 13 year old.  Think about it what are 17 year old boys interested in???  s*x.  Don't you think a 17 year old girl would be more developed physically than a 13 year old?  Sound to me like there is something wrong with him either an STD or he is really ugly or something.  I'm not saying 17 year olds should be having s*x either, but I'm just curious as to why he can't find a girl his own age.  Kinda sounds like the making of a pedophile if you ask me.

It is wrong. If a 17 year old has interests in a 13 year old he likely either wants to take advantage of her immaturity or he himself is very immature. At these ages there is a huge gap in maturity, common interests, development (physical and mental) and needs. If they were older, say 20 and 24 it would be fine.

When I was in high school guys that dated much younger girls were looked upon as if they were losers.I doubt things have changed much.

At this age in their lives, 4 years may cause some parents to raise their eyebrows a bit.  Personally, if they really care for each other, and there is nothing sexual happening, everyone should back off.  These kinds of relationships usually end in a few months, and rarely go over a year.  If they do go farther, they must be in love with each other, and again, everyone should back off.  Let their hearts and nature takes it's couorse, and see where i goes
