  1. Not at all. So long as you're not making the mistake of questioning the theory *because* we're in the middle of winter.

Always remember, your backyard isn't a good indication of what the rest of the world is like. You might be having an unusually cold winter, but here in Texas we've been having the warmest winter I've ever experienced. Temperatures today were in the lower 70's, and were in the mid 80's yesterday. And since we can't be experiencing global warming aand global cooling at the same time, we have to conclude that the temperature over a tiny area isn't a good indicator of long term global climatic trends.

  2. Yes. You have to look beyond today. beyond the weather. beyond a quarterly report. beyond the hype. And find the oil that is going to be burned in 50 years let alone 90 years. At current rates its gone in 30 years. The big question is what will take its place and what wars are going to be fought getting there. I am far more werred about our mess that distroys the ozone layer and how about Yellowstone-think a nuk winter from it blowing its top again could be a real problem?

Today here is what we know:  many of mankind’s advancements cause earth surface to warm, destroy the ozone layer, kill off endanger species, heat cities, and in some way cause more destruction.  Blacktop (roads and parking lots), buildings, air pollution (causes lung and other diseases), deforestation, duststorms (which increase hurricanes and cyclones and cause lung diseases), fires (cause pollution, mud slides, and deforestation), refrigerants (like CFC's), solvents (including benzene destroy the ozone layer raising skin cancer rates) and plastics; cars, airplanes, ships and most electricity production (causes pollution including raised CO2 levels) are human problems we need to fix to keep life on earth sustainable! The federal government needs to adopt a pollution surcharge to balance the field and advance new technologies. We must pay the real price of oil (petrochemicals) including global warming, cleanup and for health effects. But with that we must understand we have never seen what is now happening before. CO2 has never lead to temperature change, but temperature change has led to increases in CO2. The models have to be made as we go along with little evidence! The result is:  change is on the way, we just do not know what changes. But again adding a small amount of CO2 to the atmosphere enlarges the earths sun collection causing warming; increase water in the atmosphere and they form clouds cooling earth but causing flooding. Even natural events are warming earth and causing destruction. The sun has an increased magnetic field causing increases in earthquakes (more destruction), volcanoes (wow, great destruction), and sun spots. Lighting produces ozone near the surface (raising air pollution levels). But humans have destroyed half of the wetlands, cut down nearly half of the rain forest, and advance on the earths grasslands while advancing desertification which increases duststorms. The USA Mayor's have taken a stand and I believe are on the right track, we can have control and can have economic growth. With the peak of oil in the 1970’s, the peak of ocean fishing in the 1980’s, humans must stop procrastinating and make real changes to keep earth sustainable including in the energy debate, finance and regulation. The sun is available to produce energy, bring light to buildings and makes most of human’s fresh water. Composting is the answer to desertification. New dams are the answer to fresh water storage, energy and cooling earth by evaporation, we need many small ones all over (California needs 100 by 2012 and has not even started).

President Bush has made a choice of energy (ethanol) over food and feeding the starving people around the world; this is a choice China has rejected.

That is why I founded CoolingEarth.org, a geoengineering web sight where you can learn more about earth, the atmosphere, and how to sustain life on earth’s surface.

  3. Gengi is right....  but to make it more simple, have you ever been to the desert?  Where I live, we can have a 115 degree day, then it drops to 40 degrees at night.  Did you see "The Day After Tomorrow?"

They say that earth will cool down because of global warming.  The warmth will melt all the ice caps and send the cold ice water out.  See?

I don't know.  I always try to logic out how something I think should be false COULD be true.  It helps me figure things out.

  4. If global warming is occurring, then one of the things that will happen is CHANGES in weather patterns - some places not used to cold winters will have sharp deep freezes while other areas the cold used to be more settled will have warm then cold patterns.  Cold rainy weather may move north, replacing cold dry weather and leaving behind warmer wet winters to the south.

  5. Don't worry. I don't take it seriously either.

I prefer a little warmer temperature anyway.

  6. Global Warming is casing the change.

  7. if you are experiencing a record cold winter that dose not mean that the earth is experiencing a record cold winter. if you look at the NASA global temps you can easily see they are increasing.

    2007 data

  8. well, the below average temps all over the northern hemisphere in january so far will put a big dent in this years average, that is for sure.

No, its not wrong to question it.  It has been a below average temperature winter so far, with a couple warm bursts because of some storms moving north off the pacific, into america.

If you are a skeptic, this is a step in the right direction.  You would think, with co2 levels at their highest, it should be warming continuously.  Its funny how the proponents scream and flail their arms when its hot out, but when we have below average temps for 2 months, its "normal".

  9. no.. but don`t expect to hear the Truth

  10. Well it may be getting cold where you are, but GLOBAL means that is affecting the globe- not just where wormwar1 lives. It is not a hoax, it is a genuine problem, but it may not be as bad as all are saying. It is happening on a rapid scale, but we can help stop it. Global warming is a misnomer for Global Climate change. It has to do with your latitude and longitude on the Earth. At around 30 degrees Latitude, it is going to get a lot warmer. Then, up by Europe (England mostly) where it is already pretty cold, it will get colder. Please do some research of your own to form an opinion about such an important topic. Beneath, there is a weblink to the National Geographic website where it clearly outlines the causes and affects of Global Warming.

This has been my answer for several questions, but I don't see why people are asking the same question over and over again- in fact, like three times today the same question has been asked.

  11. wormwar

One problem with global warming is that the concept is so vague in the minds of the people. The critical interpretation is basically how it’s explained in school and the news. However most of the public see global warming connected with the ozone and pollutants which cause harmful greenhouse gasses, etc. therefore investigating and fighting for things like alternative energy (ie. Solar, wind, hydrogen, ethanol, biodiesel, etc)

Greenhouse gases are real and do contribute to global warming. Think of the different gas layers like ozone (o3) that circumference the globe as the clear plastic on a greenhouse. Longer rays of light from the Sun go in and reflect off different thermal masses bouncing back and creating shorter lengths of energy that cannot exist the plastic barrier. These beams then just continue to bounce around inside the green house until they’re finally absorbed completely (some do escape but very few), thereby warming the greenhouse greatly even in cold temperatures.

Basically there are 2 ways that this reaction (or lack of) affects the planet. Global warming and global cooling.

    1. as we add to the gases in the stratosphere, where the ozone layer is (Carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, etc), we add to the plastic of the greenhouse, trapping more short wave length energy and heating the earth more.

    2. as we deplete the ozone (with chlorofluorocarbons or CFCs), we allow more long wave length energy, which bounces back out to space without heating any thermal masses on earth, thereby cooling the planet.

It’s pretty easy to see the results..

    Melting ice sheets & glaciers

    Floods & droughts

    Great hurricanes & cyclones

    Seasonal extremes

    Seasonal phenomena’s

    Species extinction

    New & resurgent diseases

There are many ways to stop both global warming and cooling from accruing or at least slow them down until we can discover a way to reverse it, but Stop burning fossil fuels is the biggest.

I currently own 2 converted h2 vehicles which run on 100% hydrogen and 1 EV (electric vehicle), not to mention our home is completely off the grid, using alternative energy (solar, wind, etc)
