  1. It depends how you define poor. Compared to countries in Africa, it is very reach. Compared to other european countries such as France, UK, Germany it is poor.

Most of the structures you say are built in the roman empire era where Italy was the super power of the time.

Also I have heard that north Italy is more rich than south Italy.

  2. I know, I know, Italians have tan skin and are catholics, so they can't be as rich as countries like Germany and England, right? In your USA, mentality, right? Well, sorry to burst your bubble but Italy has exactly the same GDP per capita as those countries.

  3. Hi italy is a divided country. I am italian and live in england for a better life my family moved here. The south is classed as third world and is not a far cry for alot of southeners like my family to suffer droubts and hunger for parts of the year. Its ignorant to believe any different. We are classed in europe as third world and are always being bailed out with money. My cousin recently gave birth in hospital in the south where my family are from and was given only a bed frame and dingy old matress and 1 flashing light. No sheets water etc. My granparents eat only off there land and fill tubs full of water in the summer as they have no acces to any when the water cuts off. They have a goat and afew chickens thats it so anyone reading the polital rubbish and all the stats and figures give it a rest only people from there no. My dads village is so poor even the Albanians who came over went back home as it was better than the south.

  4. poor in morals

  5. My family is from the north, in the mountains between Genova and Milano. I have visited them many time and though in Chicago I have more material things they do not have they are more comfortable without them. Everyone has cell phones and a car. When I visit Italy I like to go to the small villages, it is not that they are poor it is more that they are not as concerned with money like the Americans. I have seen some very depressed areas in Illinois because industry has pulled out of the area. Many of the young people are leaving Italy for countries that have more higher paying jobs. That is how I ended up in America. So your question is is Italy poor, I say no they are rich with pride.
