Last year for the cubs when the bullpen was a major mess, marmol came up from the minors and provided major relief for the rest of the season. Now this years cubs bullpen isn't nearly a mess as it was last year, but you have wood on the DL, howry having a terrible year, and the only other 2 relievers the cubs can trust are marmol and cotts, both of which are very inconsistent. I think, if anything, samardzija can provide some stability and some needed depth in the bullpen.

  1. but he did great against the marlins today getting his first save. He has a nasty fastball.

  2. The Bullpen I think will be one of the best in the league if Jeff Samardzija can prove to be a solid arm out of the bullpen. I agree with CubsBearsBulls...Carlos Marmol has been really good for us..not terrible (He almost never gets hit off of...if u look at his stats most of the baserunners he gives up are from walks) If he gets a better command he could be one of the best relievers in baseball....Bob Howry isnt having a terrible year  he had a bad April but a terrific May and June, I think he will be one of the more consistent pitchers come September and hopefully October...Neal Cotts is a good lefty specialist we can count on most of the time...Chad Gaudin is right now our most trusted reliever probably with his electric stuff and amazing command of the strike zone (maybe just as important as Rich Harden)...Scott Eyre is just coming off ANOTHER stint off the DL so I am a little skeptical of his production but I guess we will wait and see but when hes right he can be one of the best lefty specialists in the year...We all know Kerry Wood is one of the best closers in the league (when he isnt on the DL) and i believe it will take him till around early August to get back as a legitimate closer...and that brings us to Jeff Samardzija, Jeff has a moving mid to high 90s fastball that can blow u away and then a nice slider that will leave u swinging not to mention his off spead split finger pitch that he struck out Hanley Ramirez and Jeremy Hermida on in his last outing, He has the potential to be great and I cant wait to see this kid show his electric stuff some more...

So to answer your question, yes I think he can be this years version of Carlos Marmol if not better   but it will take time to find out...so sit down, kick back and relax because it looks like we will be in for a ride :)

  3. no

  4. I don't know why Mr.Boogy hates the Cubs so much, if anything he should hate the White Sox being a Twins fan.  It's hard for me to not like another Twins fan since they are my 2nd team, but he's just an idiotic douchebag.  Marmol is not having a terible year, hes having a great year, he just had a small rough patch.  Howry isn't terrible, but he is a little inconsistent.  Scott Eyre was very reliable before going on the DL, he has just come back, so he's another good arm out of the bullpen.  Cotts has been one of our most consistent out of the pen.  Chad Gaudin has proven that he's solid out of the bullpen.  I think that the addition of Jeff Samardzija only helps this bullpen.  If he continues pitching this way, I'll be very interested to see what they do with him when Wood comes back.  I think if he continues this way there's no way you can keep him off the playoff roster.

  5. well they found a guy that can relief for them in jeff samardzija he is really good a good fastball. he can be that guy they need in the bullpen.

  6. He is a great pitcher i would like to see Jason Marquis sent to the bullpen and let samardzija start because Marquis is so inconsistent id rather have a rookie start. To answer your question i think he will have a pretty good stint with the cubs but will be sent back down after a while so he isnt Marmolbut they have 2 different roles.

  7. No. Samardzija with his numbers especially in the minors isn't too great and he's in a new area so the blood is pumping more than the other pitchers and eventually he'll struggle. Plus the Cubs are using their bullpen way too much so the other guys are worn out.

  8. Marmol is the exact opposite this year......he's horrible
