Is job boredom a good reason to look for another job

I keep winding up as an administrative assistant because no body wants to give me a chance in my field due to "lack of experience." Should I take a pay cut and start from the bottom in my field for my happiness (in this terrible economy) or should I communicate to my boss my job boredome in hopes that it will get better?

  1. You should tell your boss that you need to be trained to be given more tasks.. That you want more responsibility. Then he or she will feel you are really committed and will see that as a good sign. Tell your boss that you are not given enough tasks due to lacking experience. Someone should teach you new tasks so that you won't be bored at your workplace. A good boss would definitely prefer that you take the initiative and ask for more work and ask if someone can train you or show you how to do new things.. and say you want to keep; busy.. that will always win you points with the boss. It shows you are not a time waster and that you really want to work and learn as much as possible and take on new tasks... x*x

  2. Sure, do what makes you happy. You will feel much better, and be much more productive!

  3. If you can support yourself with the paycut you would have to take to work in your chosen field, then do it. You won't get the experience unless you do it. Unfortunately, that means starting from the bottom. If you are good at what you do, you should move up pretty quickly, IF you work harder than anyone else and get yourself noticed for the great things you do.

  4. An administrative assistant is an administrative assistant.  You need to have reasonable expectations of your job description.   If you complain to your boss that you don't like your job, chances are as long as you're doing it well, he won't care.  He wants someone who can answer phones, file, type letters, etc.  And there are probably people out there who aren't trained in other fields who would find this very fulfilling.  (Like you, I am certainly not one of them.)  If you can think of projects that will benefit the company that can make your job more interesting, you may be able to suggest these but otherwise it sounds like you're stuck.

A lot of people end up with crappy menial jobs because they don't want to start at the bottom of the ladder in their field.  But unfortunately, that's the way it works--You have to start somewhere, and there are always more qualified and experienced people out there to fill the jobs that are higher up.  If you start at the bottom, one day you will be one of them.  Working your way up is YOUR responsibility...why would anyone who cares about the success of their venture choose to higher someone with minimal experience over someone who has proven they can do the job well?  Your career is not going to be handed to you by someone nice who thinks you deserve a good job...things just don't work that way.

If you can afford it, you would be better off in the long run to take the pay cut and start at the bottom.  Otherwise you are always going to be bored and wondering where you would be if you had gone into the field that you trained for!  The perfect job usually takes years to get to, and you almost always have to work your way up to it.

  5. I would communicate with your boss first obviously finding a subsitute for the word bored - try you need more challange & stimulation

bored means your not keeping yourself busy & so maybe your job isnt even needed

anyway express to him.her that you would like to take on some more challanging roles & depending on his response go with whats in your gut

  6. yes if you are not happy where you work at . then how can you do a good  job . but wait untill u find another one first .ok . hope u find the job u like & have fun at .

  7. You should definitely speak to your supervisor! Explain to her how you think you have been doing a great job in your current work are ready for more responsibility & that you crave to learn more about your field.  You need to be challenged. See what they say. If you believe there will be "no room for advancement" or that they cant offer you anything else to learn, I think THEN would be the time to look for other employment if youre bored.  I've been there, done that and believe me you'll be so much happier if you do it this way.

  8. I say. If I'm bored with my job and need more excitement, then I'm out of there.
