Is jogging on the spot as effective as regular jogging?

My friend has the Wii Fit for the Nintendo Wii

and one of the exercises is running and you run on the spot.

Is this an effective exercise? and does it burn the same amount of calories.

  1. I think the results may vary from person to person. Running on spot is definately beneficial for someone who is starting a new excercise regiment. If you are a person who is very active and  typically does more vigerous routines, then it may not be too effective for you, but that is not to say it won't work for some. I used the Wii fit for only one week and ran in place for 20 minutes a day for 5 days and lost 3 1/2 lbs w/out any other changes in diet. For me it helps shed those extra pregnancy lbs I just can't get rid of w/ diet.


  2. hi am 14 years old and i am in a athletics club and i do 1hour of jogging on the spot every day but on thursdays i go running with my club and i sometimes do crosscountry or athletic competitons on weekend and i also do on mondays football in school after school and basketball on the tuesday will this keep me really fit ???:)


  3. Here is an answer from someone who has lost over 2 stone since January2010 just using the wii-fit.. (Jogging on the Spot)
    Using wii-fit for an average of 1 hour everyday, (mostly the Jogging exercise)after about three months of using Jogging on the spot as my main form of exercise, I went for an actual jog for the first time and couldnt believe how I could just keep going and did not break into much of a sweat.

    My legs ached like h**l the next day, so Leg strength is not improved greatly by simply jogging on the spot.

    Summary:
    Jogging on the spot does help you lose weight and does increase fittness.
    I am living proof. simple.

  5. Jogging on the spot is not going to be as effective as Jogging outside, however it is still a form of exercise. I’m sure it will help you achieve any jogging or fitness goals you may have.
    As for the comment about Wii fit I love it. It may not be as great as going to the gym but it certainly is better than sitting on a couch watching T.V. I lost 50 pounds last year and all I did was eat properly, drink more water, and workout using ONLY Wii fit (45 mins. min. a day)!
    Wii fit is designed to help people change their lifestyles in a fun way so that they will sustain it over a long period of time, hopefully permanent.  I would also like to mention that once you are in better shape doing other activities (gym, aerobics, biking, or jogging) would be more beneficial than Wii fit, even though it’s a fun game.
