I have never been a swimmer before but my mother really wants me to get involved in an activity at school and so do I. There is a summer swim team in my town that meets before the school season and I was wondering if it is a good workout and how should I prepare myself. Is swimming fun?

  1. Great fun. I'm sure that, as a swim team, they also have the phys ed preparation necessary. Swimming is great, doesn't cost much (compared, say, to football) and you can go very far with this (think Nationals or Olympics). I'm close to 60 and still swim at least twice a week. Keeps me in good shape.

  2. swimming is very fun! It will get you in shape and you will meet amazing people! Go for it!

  3. this was my first year of swim as a freshman and i can honestly say that i had a blast, and it is a GREAT idea.

try to start getting in shape before it starts..running 1/4 of a mile everyday really tones out your thighs, which is GREAT.

upper body strength is important, so if you lift weights that would be great.

look up stroke tutorials on google or something and learn the basics of each stroke.

    GOOD LUCK and ENJOY!

  4. swimming is real fun. i would definitely recommend it to anyone willing to try it. it is actually a rather difficult sport with very intense practices. but thats ok because its fun. however, be warned that swimming laps is not for everyone.

  5. I love swimming...and so will you!!!It feels so good to be in the water and is great for your body and will get you a lot of exercize. To practice to swimming, get on a treadmile and run for a while, taking short breaks. This is sort of what practice will be like. Bring lots of water..and have fun!!!!

  6. yes. swimming is definitely so much fun.  you should try it no doubt. i have been swimming for 14 years and there wasnt a moment of it that i didnt enjoy. even to this day, i remember exactly how my first practice was. i was nervous before it too and i also didnt know how to prepare.  what i did was i got some 20 and 30 minute workouts for pilates and aerobics to watch using my vcr (although these days it would probably be a dvd player).  it helped a lot especially when we did butterfly.  just remember that if you do too much in one day you could get sore.  also, if you know who your coach will be, talk to them and ask him/hesr for advice on preparing.  you definitely should do summer swimming because it is a lot less competitive then year round swimming. i started out summer swimming for 6 years before i even tryed out for a winter team.i am 100% positive that if you dont join the team, you WILL regret it.  remember to always stay in touch with your coach and maybe you can even get private lessons with him/her.  i did, and now i am the best in my age group on my team.

  7. Of course! Swimming is very fun, not to mention competitive.\

    Here is some basic stuff

    How to prepare for freestyle:

Mostly leg exercises. Make sure you know how to do a flip turn!(wiki how is very useful for learning the strokes btw)

    Butterfly:

I love butterfly. A lot. Its weird.. I'm good at it too, not to be all vain and stuff=P. Do Squats, Push ups, Arm circles, oh, and I just found a video.http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=...

    There you go. Later!

  8. yes! I'd join the summer team now to get some experience and practice before you join the school team. It can be easy or hard, depending on how much effort you put into it. Swimming is great because you get a good tan, cardio & strength workout, and never feel sweaty!

  9. Of course you should try it!!!!! Summer swimming is a lot less competitive than year round swimming so it will prepare you for winter swimming!!! Swimming is like the best sport ever!!!!!

  10. I would join it #1 youl make you mom happy and #2 you will have fun. You can practise by going to the town pool. I think joining the swim team is a really good idea!

  11. you actually  have to know how to swim to join the team but iff you do than join
