Is joining the swim team as a junior too late?

I have never competed in swimming but I have learned freestyle and breastroke from school and my parents. I have done track and xc but I really want to try swimming. I don't think I am very fast or good but is it too late to join? I think everyone makes the team though because our school is small and we are combining with another school too.

  1. I swam all 4 years in high school and was the captain my senior year. I absolutely loved it and we always welcomed new swimmers. In my senior year, another senior girl joined the team for the first time and she became one of our better swimmers. As long as you put the time and effort into the team, you will be fine. The first few weeks will focus on getting back in shape and going over each stroke. They will help you out as much as you need so don't feel bad to ask for extra help. There will be other new swimmers, so you won't be alone.

I hope you love it as much as I did!

  2. No its not too late and it will look good on your college application!!! Do the best that you can!!!

  3. No way! Esspecially if your good!

  4. It's never too late! Swimming is a fun sport. Since you already know 2 strokes, it should be great for you. I've been swimming for 4 years and each time the swim season comes around, I'm unfit. When I swim, I'ts difficult but i always end up having fun!

  5. No I don't think it's too late. I am a [upcoming]sophomore and I just joined the YMCA swim team on Monday and I haven't been on a swim team before!(hey,my team has 9-10 year olds,I'm 15) But you might want to start at a place where there are different levels of swim teams,so you can learn the basics.

    Good luck!

  6. Not too late at all.  I joined my school's swim team for the first time as a Junior this year and love the sport now.  I just regret that I didn't join during my Freshman year.

  7. NO Way....Its never a better time to start...my team had several juniors and seniors start for the first year this past year....and they improved and helped the team out greatly...one even made districts...just be aware the going from running to swimming is different, because you need upper body strength, but it is very good for your joints especially your ankles and knees, while you are in your off season of running...

and I also participate in XC and track...

HAVE FUN DURING SWIM TEAM THIS YEAR (this is my favorite season)
