Is jumping rope good for long distance runners?

i was just wondering if jumping rope was good for long distance runners? As i am training for cross country, i was thinking jumping rope might help with my endurance and built stronger legs? is this true?

this would just be something on the side of running

  1. It's a good supplemental workout for any athlete especially runners.  Long distance runners utilize their heels, so running is very high impact on their knee joints.  Whereas jump roping you land and explode on the balls of your feet so your calves absorb the impact and not your knees.  So jump roping is a great alternative or side exercise for runners.


  2. I would think so. all the basketball players do it. I've found that anything you do to strengthen your leg muscles helps  when running. but I think that the important part of the jumping rope would be the cardio training. I think thats the tricky part when running.
