Is jury duty a mandatory thing? Can i jus ignore it and not have to deal with it in anyway?

Yes, it's a mandatory civic duty as a citizen.

Failing to do so will result in a fine, or jail time, or both.

It's not that bad having to go, you'll have a legally mandated day off from work, you'll sit round for a bit, and likely not have to sit on a jury, and go home, and get paid a few bucks.

Its called jury DUTY mecause its manditory - otherwise it would be called jury request.

It is your civic duty as a member of our society to report.

yes it is mandatory, if you just skip out you could go to jail or pay fines. but you can opt out of it, you can call them and say it isn't possible for you to come, say you have a wedding to go to or something. most of the time you go to one of those things, you just sit around all day and don't even get chosen. but it is a bonified day off work and you get paid for it.

I just had jury duty and they said if you didn't show up they'd issue bench warrants and then you'd have to pay fines or go to jail.  If you have a good excuse to get out of it you can tell them.  I didn't think it was too bad, but I only had to be there 4 days and served as an alternate so I didn't have to decide if the person was guilty or innocent.

I hated my jury duty experience. I was excused in the middle of a two-bit trial...probably because they recognized my extreme disappointment in being there.

The second time I was called I moved to another county just to avoid it.

Only if you put your name forward do you get called upon. Which  I guess you have.
