Question:

Is jury duty really as bad as people say it is?

I haven't been called for it yet, but I have heard people saying that jury duty isn't very pleasant. Do they really keep you locked up in a room for hours on end with little food and water, and you have to come even if you're really sick, and you're not allowed to go out, not even to use the bathroom? I hope these aren't true...

  1. Yeah you have people lying about a few things straight off. OK if you were sick then you could tell them when you are called, they would reschedule you and you may never even be called back for that. Second just because you are called doesn't mean you will even end up serving, around my area I think most don't. They get HUGE groups to make up for people that can't get there, or won't be able to serve. So then they whittle down that group. Then you have the ones that are put in for the jury selection. Then if you make it through THAT you are picked to serve. Anyway if you are going hours with little food and water all I'd say is so. I mean you aren't going to be there all day or anything, come on it would be the same as work for most people. As to not being allowed to go out HUH? Where would you be going. First you sit there to listen to all the evidence of the trial, then you go to decide the verdict. If you can't stay without running to the bathroom constantly during that you would never make it to the point of selection. I think the truth is you have people trying to scare you and also exaggerating how it goes. Sure parts of truth to it as well, but making those things sound way worse then they are.

  2. Jury duty is easy.  Waiting to be called or see if you are picked for a jury is tedious.

If you are picked it is fun.  You sit and listen as both sides present their case.  Then when it is all over you sit down with 11 other people talk about it and vote.  You will receive instructions form the judge.  If you have questions address them to the judge,

I hope you get picked for a jury.  I found it a great way to understand the legal system.  Think of it as OJT for civics!!

    Enjoy!!

  3. its really not that bad its just boring

  4. It's not bad.  It's just a tedious bunch of waiting for nothing to happen and then, most likely, going home.  The worst part is just having to put everything on hold.

  5. The worst part about jury duty isn't the waiting around or the bland rooms.

The worst thing about jury duty is knowing that somebody's fate possibly depends on you convining 11 other people to do the right thing even though many (if not all) of them are dumber than dirt.
