  1. yes if it is taught properly by a good Sensei who has a good all round knowledge .i suggest an okinawan style would be best

  2. The best martial arts is the one you re body accomodates with and you feel it.Thats all i have to say

  3. yes but also good for discipline the key is actually in winning the battle without ever throwing a punch if possible..good luck.

  4. yes it helps alot

i was really weak and lazy, than i started taking it and got motivated and was in shape

it helped me alot- physically and mentally

    bye

  5. obviously lol. it teaches you some handy moves.

  6. yes it is

  7. yes it is, it teaches discipline, confidence and great self defence techniques

  8. Not really. Too many people know it. When too many people know it, they all know what you are going to do next.

  9. Judo is better.

Teaches you to use weight and to throw people instead of striking.

  10. Ikiddo is probably the best self defense

  11. Yes, it really depends on you. You must be willing to learn and be dedicated to learning. You also need a good instructor.

  12. tai-chi is best for self defence its the art of using enemies motions against them karate is ok i guess

  13. Unless you want to spend a LOT of time learning the lifestyle, and devote yourself to it, you will get beat up bad. I have never seen karate used in a street fight, and have had useless karate done to me in a streetfight. It won't work unless you tuely are an expert at it, otherwise, you will get yourself in a worse situation.

  14. All martial arts are good for self defense.  Depending on what you want to learn, Karate can be a great discipline for self defense.  You could also take grappling and submission classes for further self discipline.

  15. It can be very good for encounters where you are on your feet, but to be a more complete fighter you would need to learn a grappling discipline. Karate is limited in its effectiveness as a striking art, but then every art has its weaknesses. If you look at Karate experts like Georges St Pierre, and especially Lyoto Machida, you get a good idea of how useful Karate can be. It really hones your reflexes and your timing.

  16. Yes, it is. I have only ever learnt karate so i don't know much about other martial arts, but i think they all run on the principal that they teach it for self-defense and self-defense only.

  17. It's good for developing speed of reaction which improves your chances of defending yourself. You get fit very fast too. In close quarter fighting, eg, a bar or crowd it's less useful. Basically, a fight comes down to accurate punches and your ability to dodge them.

A lot of martial artists fight on UFC. You'll see again, it boils down to punches and clinches whilst dodging.

  18. Yes !

But it really depends on the instructor and they're Training methods and attitude to self defence.

    Best wishes :)***

  19. In simple my answer is yes. I say yes because Karate's backbone is self defence. Look for a good instructor who incorporates alot of standup and equally the same amount of groundfighting aswell. One that varys their training with continuous sparring, 2 on 1 and 5 on 1 training - this should give you a good grasp. One thing is Karate takes alot of time and effort, if you are willing to train hard, you will benefit, if you want things handed over to you, then Karate is not for you. Karate is a way of life.

  20. its perfect, as long as you have been doing it for a number of years, and you have been in close and personal with your training partners.

if you've spent all your time punching and kicking thin air, you won't be able to stop your knees from wobbling when you get into a "real" fight/flight situation.

I disgree that Karate is no good for grappling. if you have had a rounded education in karate tehn you will also have learnt how to grapple. Ask someone who's done Goju-ryu karate

  21. I would suggest some kind of close distance self defense.  Karate is good, but it'll take you at least a year or two before you can utilize the skills you've learned in actual street fighting.  (Same with other styles, ie Jijitsu etc...)

so if you'll looking for something quick that you can use in months instead of years of training, take a self defense class.  They teach you the jist of the skills/techniques needed for a quick fight....

    good luck

  22. in my opinion tie kwan dou is better because you can be taught in different levels and belts with karate is only taught with belts but that is only onee mans opinion
