  1. If u are going into it for health or recreational reasons, it's a safe sport. If are are serious about it competitive, you may one day meet up with muay thai boxers who train from the age of around 6, and they are real tough. The possibility of getting serious injuries and even getting killed, is quite high, unless you went into the sport at a young age. Watch Youtube videos on MMA, K-1 fights to get  a good idea of this vicious sport. Cheers!
