Kilkenny is in Southern Ireland. It was always classed as a city (known as The Marble City) until a few years ago the powers that be downgraded Kilkenny to a town.  So while we all call Kilkenny a city, officially in Government eyes it is a town.

Yes, Kilkenny is a small city. It is a great place to stay. Very historic and great to meander around. The castle is a must to see. The pubs are great, the food is great. There are loads of different types of accommodation (try www.ireland.ie for more information - it's the official tourist board site).

It is (kind of) in the middle of Ireland. It's a very popular tourist spot - for the Irish as well as the rest of the world's population.

It was proclaimed a city hundreds of years ago, and has been overtaken in size and prosperity by several cities and even towns, so that nowadays, it doesn't fit the criteria to be called a city, but it has never been officially demoted to a town.
