  2. Kilkenny is in Southern Ireland. It was always classed as a city (known as The Marble City) until a few years ago the powers that be downgraded Kilkenny to a town.  So while we all call Kilkenny a city, officially in Government eyes it is a town.

  11. Kilkenny, a county of Ireland, province of Leinster, 40 m. long and 20 broad; bounded E by Catherlough and Wexford; W by Tipperary, N by Queen's county, and S by Waterford, containing 510,000 acres, divided into 127 parishes. The soil is generally of a good quality, with little bog land. In the N are excellent quarries for flags; coal is produced in great abundance; in the limestone district are valuable marble quarries; and manganese, iron ore, lead ore, and some indication of copper ore, are perceived in different parts. Chief rivers, the Suire, Barrow, and Nore. It sends 2 members to parliament. Pop. 157,096

  12. It is a tiny city, almost pretty, but filled with loads of cats.

  13. Yes, Kilkenny is a city in Ireland. It was granted its city charter in 1609. It is sometimes known as 'The Marble City'.

Its name in Irish is Cill Chainnigh which means 'Church of Cainneach'.

  14. Kilkenny is a county and a city within that county, but in name only. It was proclaimed a city hundreds of years ago, and has been overtaken in size and prosperity by several cities and even towns, so that nowadays, it doesn't fit the criteria to be called a city, but it has never been officially demoted to a town. It's a lovely place, I live there.

And by the way, it's ages from Killarney!!!
