Is kindergarten mandatory in Massachusetts?

My son turned 5 yrs old in May. I have paid a private tutor to come to his home-based daycare to provide reading classes. My son is reading very well for a 5 yr old. We are also practicing math.Is it mandatory for me to send him to kinder or can he just step into the first grade come next year?

Seems not, but you should pick up the phone and call your local school district and ask, not if its required initially, just for the basics and then as if required. It seems not from the articles but I wouldnt trust what I read here or on the internet in general.
