Question:

Is kitty Xanax the same as people Xanax, only in a smaller dosage?

My cat's vet said I could give her 2 mg. of Xanax (1/4 of one of my pills). I know he's a vet and all, but I'd like more opinions.

Has anyone ever given your cat Xanax?

The reason I want to give it to her is to make her bathtime less stressful. (I'll probably take one too, but a whole one.) I have to bathe her from time to time because she has long hair, and sometimes she gets poo in her fur.

Thx.

  1. Yeh.. cos the kitty is smaller than u!!!lmao

  2. Most animal drugs are really people drugs, compounded into the proper dose per weight.  I know that Prozac is frequently prescribed for cats with spraying/behavior issues, so  I see no reason why a vet wouldn't prescribe Xanax.  There are kitty tranquilizers like acepromazine, and Valium is another one that used to be frequently used.

Sometimes long haired cats get their back-end "feathers" cut short to avoid the poo in the fur issues ....
