I want to promote my business by door knocking and offering my services, but am not sure how the new rules apply to this.

Does anybody have any ideas about this?

  1. it bloody should be. no offence.  but when i was cooking my dinner some annoying powergen man turned up rabbiting on about switching suppliers and wouldnt bugger off and it wound me up.

anyway. why not do a leaflet drop instead - that way you dont get people's backs up so much, and if its something they'd be interested in they will probably keep the leaflet somewhere and ring you if they want your services, rather than feeling pressured at their front door

  2. Little monkey has got it right... you can make your own adverts for very little cost..

  3. i would say make some leaflets and cards with your infomaion on and put them in shops windows and in public places you could try posting a few in people doors good luck

  4. I promote my business by door knocking. It is not illegal even in some areas where there are signs up saying no canvassing. I checked this with trading standards and all they can do to you is send a letter ASKING you not to go into that area but that is all they can do.

    A few tips:-

    1 Obviously be polite.

2 If the householder says "no", "not interested", "go away" or whatever take the higher ground continue to be polite - "sorry for troubling you" walk away and shut the gate on the way out.

3 Never walk across peoples lawns.

4 If you see a "No canvassers" sign on the door think of a way round it. I give free samples so my opener is "I've seen your notice and I'm not here to sell I'm here to give you a free sample with no obligation"

5 Depending on what your business is you may be able to save time by asking if what your selling is relevant to their neighbours. In my case (pet food) I say "to save me disturbing your neighbour can you tell me if they have a pet". Some will come out with so much information its almost frightening, while at the other extreme a few may be very rude such as "its got nothing to do with you what my neighbour has".

Good luck with your business and if you need more help, get in touch.

  5. If it's any help l often get people knocking on the door trying to sell stuff.Good luck .
