  1. Most kosher food is halal but halal food usually isn't kosher.

  2. What your teacher MAY be saying is that if an item (not meat) on the shelf at the grocery store is marked as Kosher (in the US, it will have the U in a circle or a K), then it is Halal in that it will have no unclean animal products in it.

  3. no not always

  4. Assalaamualaikum,

Please check with a Mufti, Yahoo answers is not the right place for such a question as personal opinions of unqualified people (i.e. those who do not have the requisite Islamic education to give their opinions according to the Quran and Sunnah) do not hold any weight.

You can check this link for your answer according to a Mufti belonging to the Hanafi school of Fiqh: http://www.shariahboard.org/viewfatwa.as...

    Wassalaamualaikum

  5. Not necessarily.  The procedure for killing animals so that the meat is halal is not identical with the procedure for killing animals so that the meat is kosher - for example, the halal procedure does not entail removal of certain veins and sinews, the way the kosher procedure does.

It is worth reflecting that if only the halal and kosher laws were substantially identical, a lot of grief might perhaps be avoided.
