  1. Lane Splitting

Lane splitting is a driving maneuver commonly practiced by motorcycle riders to move between lanes of slow moving or stopped cars on congested roads.

Lane splitting is only legal in California. The California Highway Patrol says, “Lane splitting by motorcycles is permissible but must be done in a safe and prudent manner.” California lacks specific guidelines as to what is a safe and prudent manner. Two factors used to determine whether squeezing past traffic was done in a safe and prudent manner are the speed of the motorcycle and the speed of the surrounding traffic.

Lane sharing on the other hand, where two motorcycles occupy the same lane, is legal in a majority of states.

  2. I'm not sure what lane splitting is. I am going to assume you mean driving in two lanes, and No it is not legal. I live in TX.

  3. If you mean driving over the center line or dotted line and using two lanes,   NO.

Sometimes,  a  driver may do this to prevent impatient idiots from racing up to a lane closure and causing an accident by cutting in at the last moment.   Thier irresponsible behavior and impatients only punishes those who were bright enough to move over when they saw the signs.     The cutting in at the last minute requires all those in line already to jab brakes and disrupts the smooth flow of traffic,   or stops it when the impatient one cuts into someone already in line and causes an accident.

You add  "for motorcycles".    Texas does not encourage motorcycles to drive up between cars.    You are considered the same as a car and expected to wait.   Texas considers the dangers when someone changes lanes or opens their door too serious.

  4. I don't think so

  5. no i don't think so

  6. It is called lane sharing, and it is legal in California when there is more than one lane in each direction.
