Is language more important for communication, or for internal dialogue?

It seems like a silly question with an obvious answer, but REALLY think about it.

Can you imagine life without an internal dialogue? How would you solve even the simplest problems? How would you make plans? How would you remember things? Would we have any technology in this world if it weren't for internal dialogue?

Obviously communication is one of the main things that makes us human... but internal dialogue is never really in that discussion.

Your thoughts?

  1. The internal dialog restricts the mind massively. All forms of prayer and meditation exist essentially to shut the d**n thing off !

If you re quick, you ll notice that the thoughts come first, repeated by the internal dialog. Nasty habit

As for language (as in spoken ) well, how many times have you said something to someone only to be completely misunderstood ?

  2. Both are of equal importance.
