Is lava poisonous? Why?

chemically poisonous no

but poisonous means deadly or lethal.  if you try to comsume hot or dry lava, you will not have much fun.  the hot lava will burn you to death and the dry will be dusty and probably will cause problems,

so yes it is poisonous in a physical sense but chemically it's not.

Maybe you are thinking about the gases being ejected from volcanic activity. Not from a piece of lava. What makes lava so light is how porous the stone is after it cools. Gas pockets that formed during cooling.
