  1. i truly believe that your heart has to be in it. Do not think that you can do it for the money because in the end the hard work, reputation and dedication will all crash down on you due to only thinking about money. I thought about it too but I know that it was only because I knew they get paid. There are going to be people that are depending on you to support them and help them and their life is in your hands just like with a surgeon and doctor.

  2. I am getting ready to enter my third year. In my time in law school I have noticed that those that are not absolutely sure this is what they want to do with their lives either quit and go home or fail out and go home.

It is an incredible amount of work and if you are not devoted to the goal. Chances are you will not achieve it.

It is true that many that receive JD's never practice law. Those that enter the business arena tend to make more than those of us that actually practice law. Others are already highly educated with PH.D's etc. and just wanted the experience and the degree.

For example, there is an older gentleman in my section. He has a Ph.D in tax and before coming to law school was a college professor of tax at the Univ. of Utah or something like that. He is here getting his law degree....why I have not discerned seeing as how he plans to go back to teaching tax....

Law school has meant that you lose alot of yourself. While others that just got four year degrees are living their lives you will be outlining and reading....and repeating this process....

At the same time b/c it is the hardest thing most of us will ever do the friendships I have made have been the best ones I have ever made....b/c no one understands but those similarly faced

  3. First, establish what you expect from life. They, why are you picking the profession of Law ? Do you have connections or is it easier and less expensive than medicine? All advanced education will require debt and hard work and the farther you advance the harder the work. Less than 5 % will continue in the profession and thousands of JDs are being graduated each year.A listing of the law schools from the Ivy League down will confirm that. Only the recipient can determine if the debt is worth it.

  4. It depends on how much debt, what school you go to, what your plans are, what kind of job you have now, how much you enjoy reading cases from the 1700's, how much you enjoy reading in general, how fragile your ego is, what kind of connections you have to the legal profession, and what kind of support system you have in place to back you up in case you get depressed.
