Is lending business evil?

my friend is really really rich because they have a lending business and i joked her that what they're doing is evil. i know it is mentioned in the bible but i'm not sure

if he's doing it to help people, then it's good work. if he's doing it to abuse people, then it's evil. unfortunately, in the world we live in, evil doesn't necessarily mean illegal.

Depends, if it's a bank then it's not really a problem. If it's something related to pay-day loans then you might call it evil. Basicly what a pay-day loan place does is give you a loan, which you pay back on pay-day. They are intended to hold you over until you get paid. However they target the poor who tend to rely on them to survive. Since the poor people don't really have any other option the companies can charge huge interest rates which hurts the poor people economically. I believe the bible frowns upon lending with interest.
