Is leonczuk or leonchuk or gryszuk or gryszyk a ashkenazi jewish surname?

some people have told me leonczuk/leonchuk means ''son of lion'' can anyone help me out ? :)

  1. it could be an an ashkenazi name, its a polish origin.

    and leon means lion


  2. If you go to the section on "Travel", click on the sub-section "Africa & Middle East", then "Israel" you will be more likely to find a Contributor who can help.

    If it is a Jewish surname then it sounds Ashkenazi rather than Sephardi; the only name meaning "son of the lion" I know is Ben Areye (sp?) but I'm not Jewish and you really need someone who is.

  3. It's either Czech or Polish, and could certainly mean son of lion, but the second name sounds very Polish and not Jewish.
