  1. Yes.  Guatemala has its unsafe areas, but for the most part, it is safe.

I have spent weeks in Guatemala and have never had any issues.

  2. It has it's safe areas and it's dangerous areas (like any other country)... depends on where you are going????   The city has many touristic places with a lot of vigilance, so you have nothing to be afraid of... of course, outside the ciry, in some villages it's dangerous but i don't think you'll be going there... where are you exactly going???

  3. It's having problems with crime but it's not totally unsafe

  4. Personally I feel safer in Guatemala than I do when I'm in the USA.

  5. That depends on what you mean by safe. Guatemala City is not safe. Most smaller towns and villages ARE safe MOST of the time. All the driving everywhere is NOT safe. Some roads and bridges are not safe. The drinking water is not safe for most foreigners that aren't used to it.

But, then again, nowhere in the world is ever totally safe. Most people just feel safe with a place they are more familiar with. Understanding the language can help a lot, too.

Guatemala used to be a lot more unsafe, but that has changed for the most part. They are getting and enforcing more laws and agreements, and that helps. Most of the people are the greatest you'll ever meet! ... I even married one!
