for example, if uv light is directed at a mirror, is the reflected light also uv? what about cameras? if you recorded uv light on it is the image also producing uv light? what about black lights?

  1. no

  2. no, no mirror reflects 100% of what is shone upon it.  A normal household mirror will not reflect radio waves, gamma waves, x-rays, etc...  It reflects visible light and a little spillover on each side.

  3. no cuz  the light reflected by mirror is approx 90% of the total.

bcoz. it is made up of silver.

  4. A normal mirror does not change the wavelength of the incident light, but the composition of the reflected light is still somewhat different because it generally does not reflect light of all wavelengths equally efficiently. However, if the light is monochromatic (as that of a laser) and the mirror is perfectly flat and smooth, then the reflected light has all the properties of the incident light, usually including uv light.   An exception occurs when the material is fluorescent.  In that case

incident light of high frequency (such as uv)  can be absorbed by molecules of the medium, which then are momentarily in an excited state. These excited molecules may then decay to a somewhat lower excited state, giving the excess energy to infrared radiation or molecular vibrations.  The molecule subsequently drops back to the ground state, emitting a light photon that is of longer wavelength than the uv photon it initially  absorbed.  Thus this could be in the visible range, creating the effect of fluorescence.  If the time delay for the latter transition is significant, the effect is called phosphorescence. Black light is a light source that is almost exclusively uv light.  Here is a link:
