Is linguistics and intro to study of lang the same thing?

for college class it says intro to study of lang but i think i put linguistics are they the same thing? and also if you know do they have anything to do with computer science major?

Well, linguistics is commonly defined as "the study of language". The main purpose of it, however, is to study "human languages". Artificial languages such as computer languages (BASIC, C, C+, PASCAL,...) are not usually studied under this major. But, we also have a sub-branch of linguistics called "computational linguistics", which, in simple terms, deals with the way computer science helps in studying and analysing languages, and in applications such as machine translation, etc.

I think the course you are talking about is on the concept of computer languages, right? Then, It is not called linguistics anymore.
