  1. Music is perfectly safe to listen to. No where in the Quran does it say Music is forbidden !i

  2. Yes

May Almighty Allah keep all of us from it.

just try by us.... and definetely Help by Allah comes..

  3. there are debates about it, some say it is and some say it isnt

in my opinion a balance is okay, so dont listen to just music but listen to recitations of the quran and nasheeds aswell, thats what i do but i'll admit i need 2 cut down on music =S

  4. Yeah, that's too bad for you guys.  I would really hate to live without music.  It's a good thing God likes music.

It must be hard to watch movies since they all have background music.  Or video games, YouTube, elevators.  There's really no escaping it, huh?

  5. people will tell it's not but the prophet has told

'THE VOICE OF SHAYTAAN IS MUSIV'

what more than that do you want?

    the prophet said

'THOSE WHO LISTEN TO MUSIC WILL HAVE HOT IRON ON THEIR EARS ON THE DAY OF JUDGEMENT'

@all those who say music is not haraam, do you have proof to say that.

btw the duff is permitted and nothing else is.

    that's it.

    descide it for yourself.

    @MiMi:

*Music is cure for many mental illnesses*

why dont you listen to the Quraan instead of music? it's a better cure and it's from Allah. and dont you enjoy listening to the Quraan even Quraan can be used as a source of enjoyment.

btw this life is not to enjoy. 4 a believer enjoyment is all in the aakhira.

  6. The blessing of logic (God created it).

If the music (or anything else) is meant to elevate the ego of mankind, to cause mankind feel or think too highly of himself or too confident in himself, to promote violence or hatred of any human, or encourage the degradation of women? Then that music (or other object) is haram (forbidden).

Excess zeal in religion is also forbidden since it seeks to elevate man above his true position.

But if the music is to celebrate the wonder of creation, of nature, of love, tenderness and beauty as God has created? Then this is good!

  7. it is probably makrooh which is a bad thing to do so u should stop listening to music and tell others to stop it too.......

  8. scholars have different opinions in this matter. And each Muslim may follow the opinion he/she is convinced with

but in general all kinds of Music that lead to doing something forbidden (like containing profanity, sexual refrences,..etc) are forbidden and this has been agreed upon from all scholars

the scholars differ on whether it's ok or not to listen to songs accompanied by musical instruments (should the songs doesn't contain any thing forbidden and some say yes and some say no each of them has a valid point and this is a minor issue)

examples of music which scholars who say it's permissable are like : Sami Yusuf, Native Deen, Yusuf Islam,..etc

AGAIN MAY I STRESS: THIS IS A MINOR ISSUE, we Muslims should focus on much more important things

((And there are among men, those that purchase idle tales, to mislead (men) from the path of Allah and throw ridicule. For such there will be a humiliating punishment)) (Surah Luqmaan:6)

The scholars of Tafseer have stated that ‘Idle Talk’ refers to music and singing. ‘Abdullaah ibn Mas’ood (رضي الله عنه) swore by Allaah three times about this verse being in reference to Music,

((By Allaah, of who there is nothing worthy of worship except Him, its meaning is Music)) and he said this three times.

    Sunan al-Bayhaqee (1/233), Tafseer Ibn Katheer, al-Haakim, Mustadrak (2/411)

This saying has also been narrated from many others amongst the salaf as-Saalih, such as Ibn ‘Abbaas (رضي الله عنه) who said ,

((This verse- And those who purchase Idle Talks- was revealed for music, singing and the like.))

Sunan al-Bayhaqi, 1/221 and Musannaf Ibn abi Shayba, 132/5

The Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم) is reported to have said,

((Among my Ummah there will certainly be people who permit zinaa, silk, alcohol and musical instruments…)) until the end of the hadeeth.

    Narrated by al-Bukhaari ta’leeqan, no. 5590; narrated as mawsool by al-Tabaraanee and al-Bayhaqee; Ibn Maajah (4010). See al-Silsilah al-Saheehah by al-Albaani, 91

Ibn Hajar al-'Asqalaanee stated in his introduction to his explanation of Saheeh al-Bukhaaree,

((He did not place in it except the authentic Hadeeth))

Introduction of al-Fath-ul Baaree of Ibn Hajar al-'Asqalaanee

Shaykhul Islaam Ibn Taymiyyah (رحمه الله) said,

((This hadeeth indicates that ma'aazif are Haraam, and ma’aazif means musical instruments according to the scholars of (Arabic) language. This word includes all such instruments.))

    al-Majmoo’ al Fataawa, 11/535

    al-Haafidh Ibn Katheer stated:

((And Ibnus Salaah denounced Ibn Hazm for his refutation of the hadeeth of music where Imaam al-Bukhaaree said "and Hishaam bin 'Amaar said"))

    al-Baa'ith al-Hatheeth Sharh Ikhtisaar 'Uloom al-Hadeeth page 35

    al-Haafidh al-'Iraaqee said:

هذا الحديث حكمه الإتصال، لأن هشام بن عمار من شيوخ البخاري حدَّث عنه بأحاديث... والحديث متصل من طرق: من طريق هشام وغيره

((This Hadeeth takes the ruling of being connected, because Hishaam bin 'Ammaar is from the Shuyookh (teachers) of al-Bukhaaree and he narrated from him ahaadeeth… and the Hadeeth is connected from paths: from the way of Hishaam and other than him.))

    Sharh at-Tabsirah wat-Tadhkirah

Some of the 'Ulemaa have reported Ijmaa' upon the prohibition of Music such as Ibn Rajab in his book, "Nazhatal Asmaa' fee Masaa'ilat as-Samaa'" where he quoted al-Aajurree saying:

وقد حكى أبو بكر الآجري وغيره إجماع العلماء على ذلك

((And Aboo Bakr al-Aajurree and other than him ruled a consensus of the Ulemaa upon that))

    Nazhatal Asmaa' fee Masaa'ilat as-Samaa' p. 3

    Abee Tayyib at-Tabaree also said:

أما مالك بن أنس فإنه نهى عن الغناء وعن استماعه … وهو مذهب سائر أهل المدينة

((As for Maalik bin Anas, then he prohibited music/singing and listening to it… and this is the Madhhab of the rest of the people of Madeenah))

    Abee Tayyib at-Tabaree also said:

لا يجوز الغناء ولا سماعه ولا الضرب بالقضيب ، قال ومن أضاف إلى الشافعي هذا فقد كذب عليه

((Music/Singing is not permissible, nor is listening to it nor is hitting the bars, and whoever ascribes that to ash-Shaafi'ee has lied upon him))

    Talbees Iblees (282)

Imaam Aboo Haneefah is also reported as saying:

أن الغناء حرام في جميع الأديان

((Music/singing is Haraam according to all the religions))

    Roohul Ma'aanee of al-Aloosee (21/67)

    Ibnul Qayyim also reported:

والشافعي وقدماء أصحابه ، والعارفون بمذهبه من أغلظ الناس قولا في ذلك

((And ash-Shaafi'ee and his elder companions and those who were knowledgeable of his Madhhab were from the harshest people in speaking against music))

  11. its haram. if not the instruments the lyrics. these days you cant listen to a song that doesnt curse or objectify women.

    surat Luqman aya 6:

"But there, among men, those who purchase IDLE TALES, without knowledge (or meaning), to mislead (men) from the Path of Allah and throw ridicule (on the Path). . . "

to sum it up: you dont benefit from listening to music, its pointless

  12. Anything can be haram or halal...depends on how it is used and what the intentions are.

Very true...this question has been asked...basically at least once EVERYDAY! lol

    Yaktur is spot on!

Music is cure for many mental illnesses...it's a form of medicine!!! as well enjoyment. As well as dancing!!

You cannot forbid something that Holy Quran has not forbidden or the Prophet (pbuh) has not forbidden. You cannot be making up your own stories here.

And yes Allah (swt) likes music....Music is present in the heavens...

    Salaam!

@ [a muslim] below: where in the world did you get that info? It is completely FALSE! It is not written in the Holy Quran.

    006.061.568 - Virtues of the Qur'an - - - -

    Narrated Abu Musa

That the Prophet said to him' "O Abu Musa! You have been given one of the musical wind-instruments of the family of David .'

    Narrated Aisha

That once Abu Bakr came to her on the day of 'Id-ul-Fitr or 'Id ul Adha while the Prophet was with her and there were two girl singers with her, singing songs of the Ansar about the day of Buath. Abu Bakr said twice. "Musical instrument of Satan!" But the Prophet said, "Leave them Abu Bakr, for every nation has an 'Id (i.e. festival) and this day is our 'Id."

@ [a muslim] again...: It's so sad that you really that this life is not for enjoyment!! Allah (swt) sent the Holy Quran for our spiritual comfort and guidence. Allah (swt) says that the best things of the world are for those who believe in Him.

Quran 23:51 O ye messengers! Enjoy (all) things good and pure, and work righteousness: for I am well-acquainted with (all) that ye do.

Allah (swt) rewards are for the believers in this world and the hereafter!!

One ungreatful to Allah (swt) if they are not enjoying His blessings!

This is not about not reading the Quran! This is about whether music is haram or not!

P.s. Reading, listening, and reciting the Hoy Quran is somethin I do on a daily basis!!

  13. ulma say its haram

    musician say its halal

  14. it's haram sister

    1) from QURAN

"And of mankind is he who purchases idle talks (i.e. music, singing, etc.) to mislead (men) from the Path of Allah without knowledge, and takes it (the Path of Allah, the Verses of the Qur'an) by way of mockery.  For such there will be a humiliating torment (in the h**l-Fire).

    (The Noble Qur'an - Luqman 31:6)

"And Istafiz [literally means: befool them gradually] those whom you can among them with your voice (i.e. songs, music, and other call for Allah's disobedience)..."

    (The Noble Qur'an - Al-Isra 17:64 )

"The Day of Resurrection draws near, None besides Allah can avert it, (or advance it, or delay it).  Do you then wonder at this recital (the Qur'an)?  And you laugh at it and weep not, Wasting your (precious) lifetime in pastime and amusements (singing, etc.).  So fall you down in prostration to Allah, and worship Him (Alone)"

    (The Noble Qur'an - An-Najm 53:57-62)

    2) from hadeeth

    Sahih Al-Bukhari Volume 7, Book 69, hadith #494v

Narrated Abu 'Amir (raa) or Abu Malik Al-Ash'ari (raa) that he heard the Prophet (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam) saying, "From among my followers there will be some people who will consider illegal sexual intercourse, the wearing of silk, the drinking of alcoholic drinks, and the use of musical instruments  [ma'aazif] as lawful.  And (from them), there will be some who will stay near the side of a mountain, and in the evening their shepherd will come to them with their sheep and ask them for something, but they will say to him, 'Return to us tomorrow.' Allah will destroy them during the night and will let the mountain fall on them, and Allah will transform the rest of them into monkeys and pigs and they will remain so till the Day of Resurrection." note: Here Rasulullah (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam) has mentioned music with drinking of alcohol and fornication (zina) which are a MAJOR (Kabair) sin!

    Sunan Abu-Dawud Book 41, Hadith # 4909

Narrated Abdullah ibn Mas'ud(raa) : Salam ibn Miskin(raa), quoting an old man who witnessed AbuWa'il in a wedding feast, said: They began to play, amuse and sing. He united the support of his hand round his knees that were drawn up, and said: I heard Abdullah (ibn Mas'ud) say: I heard the apostle of Allah (SAW) say: Singing produces hypocrisy in the heart.

Sahih Al-Bukhari and agreed upon by At-Tabari.

Sa'id ibn Jubayr(raa) reported that Ibn 'Abbas(raa) said about the verse:  "And of mankind is he who purchases idle talks" (31:6), that, "ldle talks means singing and the like."

The Messenger of Allah (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam) said : "A people of my Ummah will drink wine, calling it by other than its real name. Merriment will be made for them through the playing of musical instruments and the singing of female singers. Allah (SWT) will cleave the earth under them and turn others into apes and swine." (Narration of Ibn Maajah ) note : This hadeeth has also been narrated by al-Bayhaaqi and ibn Asaakir, and has been authenticated by the renowned scholar of hadeeth Ibn al-Qayyim.

The Messenger of Allaah (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam) said : "Verily Allah prohibited wine, gambling and al-koobah; and every intoxicant is prohibited." Sufyan said :" I asked the narrator, Ali bin Badheemah, ' What is al-Koobah?' He answered, 'It is the drum'." (An authentic hadith narrated by Imaam Ahmed bin Hanbal )

That the Messenger of Allaah (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam) said : "Verily I did not prohibit weeping [per se], but rather I forbade two voices [sowtayn] which are imbecilic [ahmaq] and sinfully shameless [faajir]: one a voice [singing] to the accompaniment of musical amusement [lahw] and Satan's [wind] instruments; the other, a voice [wailing] due to some calamity, accompanied by striking of the face and tearing of garments. But this [weeping off mine] stems from compassion, and whosoever does not show compassion will not receive it." (The narration of Haakim and Others) note : This hadeeth is graded Hasan, and has been strengthened by other narrations.

Anas bin Maalik (radi Allaahu anhu) related from the Prophet (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam) that "two cursed sounds are that of the [wind] instrument [mizmaar] played on the occasion of joy and grace, and woeful wailing upon the occurrence of adversity." (Narration of Abu Bakr ash-Shaafi'ee)

  15. definately NOT HARAM

not authorized in Glorious Quran by Allah Allmighty

[16:116] You shall not utter lies with your own tongues stating: "This is lawful, and this is unlawful," to fabricate lies and attribute them to GOD. Surely, those who fabricate lies and attribute them to GOD will never succeed.

  16. it is haram!

becuase allah told us not to listen to music so we woudlnt get fooled with dajjaal

  17. Yes it is

  18. I agree with the first answerer,

it has been asked too many times!!!!

Prophet Muhammad(pbuh) forbid us to listen music....

    Why??

    A. Prohibition of music is recorded in many authentic Ahadith

    Narrated Abu Malik Al-Ashari:

"The Messenger (pbuh) of Allah (SWT) said, "Some people of my Ummah will drink wine, calling it by other than its real name, merriment will be made for them through the playing of musical instruments and the singing of lady singers. Allah will cleave the earth under them and turn others into monkeys and swines.

    [Ibn Ma'jah Vol.5 Hadith No.4020]

Narrated Abu Amir or Abu Malik Al Ashari that he heard the Prophet saying, "From among my followers there will be some people who will consider illegal sexual intercourse, the wearing of silk, the drinking of alcoholic drinks and the use of musical instruments, as lawful. And there will be some people who will stay near the side of a mountain and in the evening their shepherd will come to them with their sheep and ask them for something, but they will say to him, 'Return to us tomorrow.' Allah will destroy them during the night and will let the mountain fall on them, and He will transform the rest of them into monkeys and pigs and they will remain so till the Day of Resurrection."

    [Sahih Al-Bukhari Vol.7 Hadith No.5590]

However, there are some Ahadith which indicate that it is permissible to beat the ‘daff’ i.e. the tambourine (which is open on one side and covered on the other). as u have said.

Narrated Urwa on the authority of Aisha

“On the days of Mina, (11th, 12th, and 13th of Dhul-Hijjah) Abu Bakr came to her while two young girls were beating the tambourine (daff) and the Prophet was lying covered with his clothes. Abu Bakr scolded them. The Prophet uncovered his face and said to Abu Bakr, "Leave them, for these days are the days of 'Id and the days of Mina."

    [Sahih Al-Bukhari Vol.2 Hadith No.987]

Narrated Ar Rabi (the daughter of Muawwidh bin Afra):

“After the consummation of my marriage, the Prophet came and sat on my bed as far from me as you are sitting now, and our little girls started beating the tambourines (daff) and reciting elegiac verses mourning my father, who had been killed in the battle of Badr. One of them said, ‘Among us is a Prophet who knows what will happen tomorrow.’ On that the Prophet said, ‘Leave this (saying) and keep on saying the verses which you had been saying before.’ [Sahih Al-Bukhari Vol.7 Hadith No.5147]

Therefore from the above evidence it is concluded that the use of musical instruments in general is forbidden in Islam, with the exception of the 'Daff'

Music usually intoxicates a person and takes one away from the path of Allah (swt). Music engages a person’s mind and takes him/her away from the remembrance of his/her Creator and from realizing and focusing his/her attention on the purpose of his/her creation. In musical songs, most of the times the listeners even appreciate illogical, incorrect and blasphemous matter and content. A person will realize this when he starts pondering over the meaning of many Hindi and English songs, lyrics and ghazals. Here we find that it is because of music that the person’s mind is intoxicated and the person deviates from the straight path. And Allah Knows the Best.
