Question:

Is living in America really worth it?

My parents are both work-a-holics and have work pagers that beep whenever their bosses decide to crack the whip. I don't get to see them as often, and I never was able to get along with them. So much for FAMILY. A family is just two people who produce more cheap labor for big businesses to exploit.

I live in the suburbs where I can't go anywhere without driving. I'm in college, but it costs a lot and makes me live like a poor person, while most of my friends decided to forgo college and pick up salary jobs that don't pay that much, but enough. But these are intelligent kids.

I think we are deterring education in America, so that big businesses can have a lot of cheap labor, because of course you have to pay the college grad more.

Gas prices and food prices are going up. While wages stay the same. Big businesses pass on the increasing costs onto the consumer.

I go to college, but I heard this doesn't AT ALL guarantee me a job.

I feel so helpless in times like

  1. The fact is, that each person is responsible for the financial condition they are in.

Many people in America are doing quite well.

    Bill Gates

    Warren Buffett

    Oprah Winfrey

    John Travolta

You can't blame the country for this.

Nobody is guaranteed a job. Yet the fact is clear, you are responsible for what you get in life, nobody else.

I have a cousin who was in a car wreck that was 100% not her fault. Her baby was in the car and was paralyzed. She is older now, and her attitude about success is a lot better than yours, and because of that, she will do a lot better than you.

    Count your blessings.

  2. White college girl pain. You poor dear. Why don't you read about some of the truly depressing stuff that's going on in the world? Yeah, I know, this is simplistic, but did you read your question??

  3. there is misery every where in the world and most times u will find others have more then u . it may not help u knowing what others r going thru . but sure u will stop complaining so much and thank god that u have at least enough to live thru every day .

as far as ur job and work and education senario is conserned i would suggest u to continue studies as long as u can afford it . even if u have to live miserly for now. education will never let u down in the long run. if u r more educated then ur friends then sure later on after ur studies r finished at soem time u will get better job and pay then ur friends. even thou u may start at the same level as they may be now. but u will grow faster in ur profession because of education quicker.

so dont leave ur studies and keep going as much as u can

  4. I understand the helpless part, the news people make the world seem as though it's dying out and we're the cause of it.

But remember; your parents have good jobs and work very hard so that you can get ahead in life and make a good salary.  Life IS hard, that's for sure, but be grateful for what you DO have, rather than moan about what you don't.

You have food on the table every day.  You have a place to sleep that's (hopefully) bug-free and safe from predators.  You have the opportunity to get a higher education.  You have clothes to wear every day ... probably enough to wear an entire week's worth and not worry about washing.

You wonder if its worth it, why not be like your friends and enjoy the money now.  Step back my friend and take a good long look down the road aways.  Twenty years from now you will (with lots of hard work ... kind of like your parents are doing now) you will still have food and shelter and clothing and a few luxuries if you wish.  Those kids who are now working instead of going to college have limited themselves to what they can make in salary.  There's only so far you can go in a company without a degree.

  5. Nope, it is NOT woth it.  There are places in the world where you can live, and not be caught in the "Rat Race" that United States has to offer.  Gas prices are roughly high where ever you may live, unless your in the country that takes it out of the ground.

Once such country is the Philippines!  For the following reasons:  In various parts the weather is hot all year round, sure it may rain once a month but that's about it.  The food is outstanding, I pay 125 pesos an evening roughly three dollars.  Lunch is about the same, but, we buy the food and bring it home to eat.

Give it some thought....by the way the women are beautiful too!

  6. don't worry be happy?

every place is gonna have it's problems and we'll never have a utopia anywhere on earth

  7. No matter where you are, you will be faced with the same problems or scenarios because because oil problem is global.

Nobody knows our economic future, it may do good or bad. For now you have to concentrate on your studies and try to do your best. Because i believe that economic situations change, and we don't know in what economic situation will you be in,  when you are ready to work. Be positive.

  8. America gives everyone the opportunity to chase their dreams.  Apparently your parents dream about money, but you wish they would spend more time with you.

Have you talked to them about this?  Maybe they don't know you want to spend more time with them?

Do you have a dream?  Start pursuing it!  There is no better country in the world for you to have the best chance at pursuing your dream.

So if your dream is spending more time with your parents, stop moping around here, and give them a call!  Invite them to dinner, ask them about their work (they are probably passionate about it and would probably be amazed if you were interested in their work life!)  Learn about their jobs so you can listen and ask questions intelligently.  Think about all the nice things from your childhood and thank them for those things.  Write them nice notes about how thankful you are.

You are only as helpless as you choose to be.
