  1. If you are referring to the normal US citizen, then no, it is not expensive.  For the normal Salvadorean citizen, living in El Salvador is very costly.  Since the monetary unit was changed to the US dollar, inflation has been rampant.  A Soda used to cost 3 colones, now it costs .50.  At an exchange rate of 10 colones for every dollar, people are now paying 5 colones for a soda.  This happens with everything.

The average minimum wage for a Salvadorean citizen is $28 dollars a day.  Middle class jobs are fiercely competitive and few.  Education is demanded for middle class jobs.

By far El Salvador is divided (mostly) into 2 classes.  The poor and the rich.  The middle class is rapidly diminishing.

  2. el salvador does now carry the U.S dollar but things are still very cheap people there dont make that much money so things have to be priced so they can be affordable, there is many places where you can bargain shop. you can live there on $300 to $375 a month.

  3. No, it is not expensive.  However, keep in mind that El Salvador is a poor country and with many poor countries there is alot of crime
