  1. Yes.  I live on the top (2nd) floor of my apt. house and all the rest of the apts are on the first floor.  I have a wonderful view.  It's a lot more peaceful up here and I can see a lot of what's going on in the neighborhood.

The only drawback is hauling the groceries up those steps.

One major asset is that heat rises, so in the winter, my lower neighbor's furnace almost heats my apartment entirely.

  2. Upside: Nobody's stomping on your ceiling at all hours of the night, no road noise, etc. There could be a view. Utilities are cheaper because heat rises and they typically put little or no insulation between the floors.

Downside: The people below complain to the landlord because now you're the ones stomping on their ceiling at all hours of the night. You've got stairs and farther to walk to your car. Really sucks in event of fire.

Neutral: Doesn't make any difference if you've got the wrong next door neighbor.

  3. Third level is nice and it has its perks but you also have to consider groceries, laundry and that people might complain about your noise level too. Going all the way up to get home after a long day at work or during winter time with snow on all those extra steps (ice). Its nice but sometimes it could be challenging as well.
