It's more expensive, and also probably serves the most unhealthy food possible in terms of calories and fat content per dish..

Other than that it's a pretty good place to eat!

it is better, nicer setting, you can see your food being prepared, and the portions are much more generous for about the same price. They also seem to have more tables so the wait is not as long

In my experiences with both chains, I would rate Olive Garden higher...I have had truly bad experiences at Macaroni grills, whereas I've never had a bad dinner at olive garden.

they both suck in my opinion if you have one near you go to a place called Buca Di Beppo

To the person who said Mac has create your own pasta.  So does Olive Garden, just ask and they'll make you anything.  Mac just advertises it.  I work at OG and have been to Mac several times.  They have different meals.  It's a matter of finding which meals you prefer.  OG's alfredo will beat Mac's hands down.  Our soup and salad will too.  They do have a chicken dish with capers and artichokes that OG doesn't offer and is my favorite dish.  As for atmosphere.  Mac may be a little better, and they're prices are the same but don't include a salad.  I also rarely get good service at Mac and the house wine served in a drinking class kinda sucks.

they are different restaurantsbut both are good, macaroni grill has that wonderful bread but olive garden has that great salad!!!

i LOVE Olive Garden not just becase of there peach tea but the chicken fettichini (sp?) is super good.......

the setting of the whole place just feels like ur in a whole other place.

When you are seated, you are brought a basket of bread w/brushed olive oil.

YES. Way better food IMO. You can order pasta any way you like - pick your pasta, your sauce, your "toppings."

Mac is a better place to go if you wanna impress someone.  More romantic of an atmosphere (darker lighting), get to watch a very talented server write his name upside down for you (original), and a much wider selection of wines.  As far as food flavor goes, Olive Garden has Mac beat - did you know that OG has around the clock chef's digging away at old italian / sicilian recipes FROM italy to achieve  ways to get the most flavor out of each dish?  Plus you can never go wrong with the never ending salad and breadsticks if your on a budget.
