The rest of my answer is based on my own use, experience & the petfood poisoning of last year. When it occured I had 1 animal with confirmed liver damage, caused by food. Animal healed & fine now. But I was tired of the junk out there & did my own research on finding a pet food made with only US grown or made ingredients. Most convenient for me to find, ironically was not a premium brand, nor the cheapest brand, but Dads pet food. No one gets sick on it, they all thrive on it, they all like it & personally none of mine will ever come off dads dry again. I use NO store bought wet food. I make my own, or give them raw meat. btw I have 18 cats & 2 dogs. when the poisoning occurred last yr, no brands were seperated by best. premium brands as well as middle & lower cost brands were all affected. I assume most pet foods are nutritionally adequate though for animals to thrive.
