  1. If you are looking for a really good voip service that does not need a computer to be switched on, then the company I use is excellent.

The phone plugs directly into your broadband, or any broadband connection and the service is excellent, I have seen it used between Italy and the USA.

If you would like to know more email me and I will send on a web site address.

  2. I don't think of Magic Jack as a long distance service even though that is what I use it for.  I say that because Magic Jack is NOT a telephone company or service. It IS simply a device that enables you to make long distance or local calls over the internet without paying monthly or per minute usage fees. You aren't really making calls for free... It cost just over $1.66 [USD] a month when you break down the $19.95 annual fee for unlimited calling.

    Some of the minuses are:

    1. Little to no customer service. You can do online chat if you are lucky enough to connect to someone. You can visit the online FAQ and you can usually find help at http://unofficialmagicjack.forum2u.org/i...

    2. Magic Jack will not work if you have a power failure or lose your internet connection.

    3. Magic Jack only works with a high speed connection - not dial-up although it may work with dial-up if a magic jack user is calling another magic jack user.

    4. Only a limited number of telephone local exchanges and area codes are presently available. Thus if you used magic jack as an only number your local friends and relatives may have to pay long distance charges to call you unless they have magic jack as well.

    5. Even when calling a local number you will need to use the area code, so I understand, which some consider an inconvenience.

    6. If you use magic jack as an only phone line, your computer has to be on to receive or make calls. If you are not home, you don't need the computer on. Magic Jack voice mail will take the call and you can listen to the message when you logon.

    7. Some users have reported that incoming calls don't always connect... Not good if that's true. One more reason not to give up your regular phone.

    8. 911 service does not work the same plus what if an emergency arises when your computer is off or there is a power failure, etc. Does your cell phone work from home?

    9. A window pops up on your computer whenever magic jack is in use. This can be a bit of a nuisance if you are working on the same computer magic jack is installed on when someone else in the house goes to use the phone or phone calls come in.

    Some pluses are:

    1. Make unlimited long distance calls for only $19.95 a year

    2. If you keep your regular land line magic jack gives you an extra phone line.

    3. You can take your magic jack with you when traveling anywhere in the world and call home to the USA or Canada for free with a high speed internet connection.

    4. You can give a magic jack to friends or relatives with high speed internet anywhere in the world and they can call you for free. Plus you can call them for free using your magic jack and calling their magic jack number.

    5. If you have friends or relatives without a computer or high speed internet connection you may be able to select a telephone number that is local for them so they could call you toll free on your magic jack number [subject to such a number being available].

    6. You can change your magic jack number once for free. Subsequent changes are $10

    7. Sound quality is reported as excellent by most users.

Even though my list shows more minuses than pluses, that is not the determining factor. If you only use magic jack for making long distance calls and it will save you more money than it cost to purchase then it's a good deal.

  3. I use the MagicJack...and so far ....so good!

yes!! your computer got to be always on!! no...!!.there are no adds!

I don't think its a good idea for you to get MJ, you're on your own when it comes to customer service!

there is a little window on the softfone that will tell you sometimes new about the MJ.....like " you can change your area-code now" and stuff...

for more info.....go to the yahoo Q/A search box an type in MagicJack...

I'm sure you have one of the best and fastes high-speed Internet provider, being a gamer....so the MJ should be just great....because with the MJ it all depends on you ISP....not se with other VoiP services....

  4. It is very reasonably priced.  The service itself is ok but is not very reliable.  The sound quality is as good as your land line.
