  1. Yes, it was a British invention - created specifically to find a use for surplus yeast from the breweries at Burton on Trent! It was promoted as a vegetarian panacea in Edwardian times.

    I love it!

I've tired the Australian iconic Vegimite, but it's not the same!

  2. it is british. 100% :]

    LOVE IT!

  3. Yes, its British, made in Burton on Trent....huge factory there....and the smell lingers everywhere in the air there. I would guess that its made from the yeast by-products of all the breweries there.

    Personally....I HATE the stuff!!

  4. Sorry, but thats not a question. You cannot eevn consider loving marmite.

Its the devils food, of that there is no doubt

  5. Yeast extract and malt extract are from the brewing industry originally, of which britain has had a long history. We should be proud of Marmite, as we are of our plastic lawn chair throwing football hooligans..... God bless blighty....

  6. It is ENGLISH it is the most disgusting thing ever made.

  7. I'm pretty sure it is British. I absolutely love it. I have a jar of champagne Marmite that my boyfriend got me, but I'm saving it - too special to eat!

  8. as far as i know it is british and it is so nice one of my favourites my Kidd's love it ,its so good 4 u their is no substitute 4 it

  9. Marmite on toast is fab!!! Quite high in salt though. Quite a few alternatives out there which are worth ago - Vegemite (not quite as tasty but a lot better salt wise) Vecon etc etc

  10. what's marmite?

  11. i HATE it but yes it is british

  12. I HATE it... its a cheap copy of Vegemite, and any Australian will agree that there is no substitute for Vegemite (which are marmite and mightymite). Australia rocks!! :P

  13. I think it's British but I can't be sure. I hate the stuff with a passion lol. Once, when we were teenagers, my best mate made me close my eyes to do a 'guess the food with you eyes shut' game. She knew I hated marmite so after 2 foods that I liked she got a tablespoon of marmite and stuffed into my mouth ha ha ha

I don't know how you can stomach it lol.

  14. Yes it's British. Other countries have pale imitations, Australia and its Vegemite for example - it's sort of OK, but it's not Marmite.

There are few things we Brits can be prouder of than Marmite :)

    I love it.

    You had a late breakfast...

  15. 1. Yes. It was launched on an unsuspecting world in 1902, from Burton-on-Trent. http://www.marmite.co.uk/love/history/bi...

    2. Love it. =D

PS. For Zahra -- unless Marmite's inventors had a time machine as part of their workshop kit, it can't be a copy of Vegemite (which I also like, by the way.) Vegemite arrived in the world 20 years after Marmite... http://www.kraftfoods.co.uk/kraft/page?s...

Though I agree with you that Oz rocks. =D

  16. It's British, and I hate it! Love Britain though :)

  17. It's British and it's lovely spread on toast. Mmmmmmm

  18. love it

  19. Yes, it is British and in answer to the same question used in their adverts, I love it

  20. I like marmite---the yeast extract.

but is this the only brand avaiable on the market?

    Why no other brand?

  22. Yes it is British! I love it.  There is nothing like marmite on toasted white bread.  The vitamin B it contains is good for you too.
