  1. Most massage therapists start their own business.  You can make more money that way but it also takes a lot of work and understanding business.  Having a business is about making money as you need to stay in business.

Massage therapy jobs start at about $12-$15 an hour.  You can work up to $25-30 at high end spas or working for a chiropractor but you usually only get paid that when you are doing a massage and get paid minimum wage when you are not doing a massage.

It isn't really about helping others as helping is really a codependent thing.  It is about learning to take care of yourself so that you can serve others which is very different.

I have been a massage therapist for 20 years and it is just like any other career with it's ups and downs and challenges, but it allows me to run my own business and create my own schedule and work with people in a one on one basis.

Do you love getting massage?  Do you love learning about people and yourself?

Choose your work based on what you love.

  2. It is a rewarding job. As a former massage therapist, I loved seeing how much better people felt after I worked on them.

I don't know what you call good money. The asking price varies depending on where you live, but as a rule-of-thumb, you can expect about $60-$80 per hour. If you are on your own, you obviously get to keep more, but there are downsides to that. You have to cover all your marketing costs and overhead. And many women massage therapists feel safer with others around, such as in a spa. However, when you work in a spa or with a chiropractor or other health care professional, they keep a sizable chunk of what you get paid.

Another factor, is that many types of massage therapy are VERY demanding on the therapist physically. One of my instructors said that the professional "life-expectancy" of a massage therapist who works full-time is about 6 years before they start experiencing physical problems related to their work.

  3. I'm a newly qualified massage therapist and I love what I do. It's not all about raking in cash either. Trust me on that. It's about helping people and making them feel good about themselves both physically and mentally.

  4. i think that it would be a good job,,, you can people by the hour and get lots of money i would do it

  5. I have been a massage therapist for the past three years and I love it! The money is ok but like with any business I am still building up my clientele. But then again I am not doing this just for the money but because it is something I love and believe in. Also people keep saying you will burn out in a certain amount of time but you learn in school to take care of yourself. If you do the self care; ie massages for yourself, yoga, meditation etc you will find that you are more than ready to go the distance in the field. Hope this answered your questions!!

  6. I am a fully trained massage therpist. I love my job, but  it is very hard on your body. The money is not great, but it depends on where you work. I love my job and wouldn't change it for the world.

Also study is required every year to gain your CEP points, to keep your provider number.

Providing your willing to put in the effort required, it is a very rewarding career which can be worked around your family needs.
