  1. Most of them are made of soy.  And soy is very high in protein and other awesome stuff.

  2. Yes...and by the way morning star farms mini corndogs are really good.

  3. All of the ones I've seen and eaten are good for you. Usually made from soy/vegetables and such. High in protein, they are great for you and taste good to =) So no need to worry.

  4. There are a lot of different versions out there made from a variety of different things.

Sunshine burgers are made mostly from seeds, Dr. Praeger's and Garden Burgers are made from veggies (GB using a lot of mushrooms which I don't care for), Yves uses lentils, bulgar, and rice (but also eggs and dairy) and Amy's uses a bunch of different things for their burgers depending on the flavor and to accomodate different diets such as gluten-free.

Seitan is made from wheat gluten not soy while Field Roast uses various grains. And Tofurkey products are made from whole and organic soy (of the soy products they seem to be the best and worth the price especially for their sausages and jerky).

Good for you. Not only are the meatless products better for you without the cholesterol and saturated fats but they are less likely to be contaminated with salmonella, e coli or mad cow (keeps the kitchen safer too).

  5. Bad? Of course not, animal meat is though.

Depends, most plant meats are made out of soy/soy beans or tofu. Also some are made with seitan, tempeh, tvp, beans (mostly chickpea, black and lentil), portabella mushrooms, or vegetables.

A lot of processed food is not good so it is also a good idea to make our own. For burgers you can make black bean, vegetable, portabella mushroom or Amy's makes some great ones, as well as other brands. For Hamburger Helper you can use cooked TVP or Morning Star Crumbles. For Hot Dogs you can use Tofurky or Smart Dogs. But like I said try not to consume too much processed foods and make your own, which is fairly easy and better!

  6. I like Morningstar brand "burgers" and bocca makes crumbles that I put into spaghetti sauce. the "hot dogs" are gross though.

  7. Most of them are all natural.  made from soy, with natural flavorings.  High in protein, low in calories and fat.  The veggie crumbles are great in moist dishes like hamburger helper-type skillet meals or spaghetti sauce/casseroles.  Chili too.  Veggie burgers can be good too, if you put lots of yummy toppings on them and cook them gently so they don't dry out (I like boca).  I'm not crazy about veggie hot dogs.
