Is mechanical Engineering a good career?

Question

Thats my major but someone told me that they don't need them really as much as people in the medical career choose. I love the idea of building robotics and even got all teary about it once....yes I am a female....lol anyway am I making a mistake?

mechanical engineering is a very good choice. You can do so much with it. the job oppertuities are endless, and it pays well. You can do a lot of creative things with it. The world is in high demand of engineers as well as in the medical field, you just hear more about the need of people in the medical field because of all the advertising night colleges do for associate degrees. You'd be a really smart girl to get a mechanical degree especially because of its versitility and wide oppertunities for research.

no you are not.  There are a ton of jobs for mechanical engineers out there.  If you really like robotics, i'm sure there are clubs and such at your school for this.  We had them, and every year they would build a car for the DARPA event.  Stick with it if it is your passion, if someone is passionate and competent you will get a great job and be happy doing it.

Mechanical engineering is a huge field that will never go away.  They are in high demand.  Think of all the things tied to MEs:

Roads

Bridges

Buildings

Manufacturing

Car

Boats

Just to name a quick few off the top of my head.  Medical is a good field as well but go with what you enjoy, there are a lot of ME jobs out there and you will have no trouble finding a job.

It is a good field to get into.

Think of the companies trying to build a spaceship to get a unit that can fly private passengers into space.

There are jobs in that field available.

Have you heard of that professor that gave the last speech and then died of cancer? If not, you should see it.

He headed up the Mech engineering department for MIT. His name is Randy Pausch (sp). He goes over some interesting information. Check youtube for it.

it pays well and it seems like you'd like it, which is important in a job. it might be hard to get a good position at first, but its worth it.
